but like I had to start somewhere
Are we important? Are we, as individuals, important? Do we make a difference? Imagine if everybody says we don't matter. What if everybody throws up their hands and falls silent,. Public opinion--that's us. All the tiny voices, raised together. If you and I don't speak, then there is silence. Many people look around to gauge what the correct path is. If we are silent, then the other voices, voices we don't agree with are louder.
All I can answer for is myself.
As for AI: Yes, I do boycott. I don't make videos. I don't use the AI response when I ask a question. I use Presearch as a search browser because I can opt out of AI there. The closest I get to AI is in my old word processing program--I let the spellcheck go crazy. That's it.
Please keep speaking up. I think people don't speak up because they are afraid of the push back. Even when people are dismayed by events, they may be loathe to speak up. In my country government is examining social media for travelers. Well, I don't travel internationally anymore, but even if I did I would say what has to be said.
We are all responsible unless we speak up.
Hear hear. It's the same on Hive - people are scared of reprisals. But perhaps it's just people get tired of speaking and making no difference. Sometimes it's easier to turn away and switch off and mind your own business. My heart spills over - I have to put the anxiety somewhere.
Good on you for remaining AI free. I think we are getting to the point where saying 'its a good tool' might be masking the reality that we have literally and metaphorically lost our minds.
