Republic of Balochistan: A Plea for Awareness and Support

I am writing today not just as a Baloch citizen, but as a human being with a dream - a dream of freedom for my people, my homeland, Balochistan. I want to share our story with you, a story of pain, resilience, and hope. I want you to know who we are, what we’ve been through, and how you can help us build a brighter future. So, please let me tell you about the past, present and future of Balochistan.

Our History: A Land Stolen from Us

Imagine a land that was once free, a place where our ancestors roamed vast deserts and mountains, governed by their own tribal laws, proud of their unique culture. That was Balochistan, a land that stretches across what is now parts of Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan. But our freedom was taken from us. In 1947, when British colonial rule ended, we thought we would be finally free again. Instead of that, on March 27, 1948, Pakistan’s military marched into our land, annexed it by force and silenced our voices. Our leader, the Khan of Kalat declared independence but his dream - and ours - was crushed under tanks and guns.

Since that day, we’ve lived under occupation. Our resources - our gas, our minerals, our wealth - have been plundered, while our people are left in poverty. But we haven’t given up. Our hearts still beat for freedom.

Our Government in Exile: A Beacon of Hope

Even though we are scattered, even though we face unimaginable challenges, we’ve found ways to keep our dream alive. That is why we formed a Government in Exile, led by our incredible Prime Minister - Naela Quadri Baloch. She is a woman of strength and compassion, someone who carries the weight of our people’s hopes on her shoulders. She is out there, speaking to the world, telling them about our struggle, and fighting for our right to be free. To me, she’s not just a leader - she is a symbol of our unbreakable spirit.

Mahrang Baloch: The Voice of Our Pain

And then there is Mahrang Baloch. She is a human rights activist, a young woman with fire in her soul. She is the voice of the voiceless, the one who stands up for the families torn apart by Pakistan’s atrocities. She speaks for the mothers who wait every day for their sons to come home, for the children who don’t know if their fathers are alive or dead. Mahrang is our hero, and I want the world to know her name, to hear her story, and to stand with her.

The Atrocities We Face: A Pain Too Deep to Describe

I wish I didn’t have to tell you this part, but I must. The pain my people endure is beyond words. Imagine waking up one day to find your brother, your father, or your best friend gone - kidnapped by state forces, vanished without a trace. This is the reality for thousands of Baloch families. We call them enforced disappearances, but those words do not capture the agony of not knowing, the endless nights of crying, the empty chairs at the dinner table. And it is not just disappearances—there’s torture, killings, and the constant fear that we’re not safe in our own homes.

Our land is rich, but our people are poor. Our gas lights up cities in Pakistan, but our villages sit in darkness. And then there is our gold—Balochistan is home to one of the world’s largest gold and copper mines, the Reko Diq, a treasure worth billions. But do we see any of it? No. Pakistan, along with foreign companies, has mined our gold, filling their pockets while our schools crumble, our hospitals stand empty, and our children go hungry. They take our wealth and give us nothing in return - no development, no jobs, no hope. It is as if our land is a bank they rob, leaving us to beg for scraps. This isnt just injustice - its an wound on our hearts that bleed every day.

Our Secular Heart: A Love That Unites Us

But even in our pain, we hold on to love, to unity, to the beauty of who we are. You might be surprised to know that, even though most of us are Muslim, we Baloch are deeply secular at heart. One of the things I am proudest of is how we cherish the Hinglaj Mata Temple, a sacred place for our Hindu brothers and sisters. Every year during the Hinglaj festival we join hands with them, celebrating together, laughing together, praying together. To me, this is what Balochistan is - a land where everyone belongs, where differences are celebrated and not feared.

Our Dream of Democracy: A Future We Can Build Together

When I close my eyes I see a free Balochistan - a place where every voice is heard, where every child can go to school, where every family has a roof over their heads. We dream of a democracy, a government that serves its people, not oppresses them. We want to take our resources back, not to hoard them, but to build schools, hospitals, and roads. We want a nation where justice isn’t just a word, but a reality.

Taking Our Fight to the World: The United Nations

Right now we are preparing to take a big step. We are going to the United Nations to declare our independence, to tell the world that we are the ++Republic of Balochistan++, a nation that deserves to be free. This is our moment, but we cant do it alone. We need the world to hear us, to see us, to stand with us.

A Personal Plea: Join Me on This Journey

I wish I could sit with you, look into your eyes, and tell you how much this means to me. Balochistan isn’t just a place on a map - it’s my home, my heart, my everything. I dream of the day when my people can live without fear, when our children can laugh without worry, when our land is ours again. And when that day comes - when we are recognized by the United Nations - I want to invite you to visit the newest country on the planet, a place where democracy will prevail, and where you all will be welcomed with open arms and warm hearts.

But I can’t do this alone. We can’t do this alone. We need you - your voice, your support, your love. Together, we can make the dream of a free Balochistan a reality.

Thank you for listening to my story. Thank you for caring. And thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for standing with us.

With hope and gratitude,

Salma Baloch, A Proud Baloch Citizen
