Korean Politics: What Makes Their Government System So Unique?

When I started learning more about South Korea not the K-pop and dramas am use to, but the real side of the country I got curious about how they run things in their governmental level. It’s very different and that’s what makes it exciting for me.

South Korea runs a democratic government, where the president is elected by the people. What caught my attention is how active the citizens are when it comes to voting and protests. They really speak out when something goes wrong that they refuse to keep silent. I remembered I read about the protest in 2016, when millions of people went out peacefully with candles to demand the removal of their president. It was called the "Candlelight Revolution." I was so amazed by that. It shows that the people really have a voice in Korea and I respect that.

I noticed that Korean politics often show up in their dramas. In K-dramas like Chief of Staff or Designated Survivor: 60 Days, you can see how political games are played, decision making, and sometimes how corrupt some systems can be. But even with the bad sides, there’s always this strong desire for change and justice in the storyand also in real life.

Their government is also very digital and fast. They use technology a lot, and services like voting, taxes, and information are often available online it's a new age system. That’s something I wish more countries would copy. It makes life easier for citizens and shows how much they value organization.

No country is perfect. South Korea still faces political difficulties, including arguments between citizens and dealing with North Korea. Still, the people seem to be strong and hopeful for better leadership.

I use to imagine about how different my country would if the people had the same kind of power and unity as Korean citizens. I admire how their voices are in unity, and how they take part in shaping their nation. It has inspired me to care more about my
country’s politics too.

leave k-pop and K-drama aside. Their politics and government tell a deep story of strength, struggle, and people's power. And I think that’s something worth sharing.
