Good morning HIVE! I've been hit with a lot of flashbacks lately, as it is naturally the case when in sub-optimal states of existence. Absorb every little quarks of the good, inhale, let it spread through your whole body, your soul and heart, let it invade you, take over, usurp your very self whenever you get spontaneously picked out of the crowd for a blatantly good feeling.
It doesn't really matter how hard you worked for it, how much you deserve it, the randomness of existence always catches up. Throw the dice, it's always 1 to 6, with each throw. If you're lucky. The 1 to 20 is more like it, trying too get through the campaign, or discounting the life tokens.
I defined a new goal for myself. To reach the point where I can esteem myself to be a king. A state of solidification of values that is profound enough, coherent enough, considerate enough to say that my rule would benefit the entire human race.
Chill, I won't get all world dictator on you. Lily might, though, if I teach her right, but you'll be all the better off for it, at least from my perspective. Trust me.
I won't get there. I'm a quite decent human being, and I'm aware of that. But the comparison with the average leads to complacency in the current state of affairs. I can't afford that. I have a child to raise into a being capable of intrinsic happiness among what's to come. And our current way of life as species makes it quite hard to be decent and happy a the same time.
I mostly smile. And wave. And try to figure out were we went wrong. Where I went wrong. Where I am wrong. I. Mistakes of others are way too easy to spot, the good old mote. But the beam?
Maybe one day in the future I'll be able to say that I could be king. I doubt I'd ever want it, though. On the contrary. There is that beautiful negative correlation between being suitable for power and wanting power. The less you want it, the more suitable you are. The more suitable you are, the less you want it.
Well, guess who's in power.
