I honestly don't think that oil is the primary reason for the actions. The focus of necessity has swayed towards "rare earths" and similar, as the both the renewable energy and the recycling rate have gone up.

And yes, getting there's a "too much" in political involvement - but I think that the "too little" is actually the more dangerous one, especially in the different varieties of democracy that we have these days. Being superficial about political topics is the biggest danger to the status quo, in my view. Digging deeper than the uneducated TikTok/Instagram/Facebook-Status-Opinions is how we can regain control about politics, at least in a way.
