Agitator presses their luck in Florida and sadly, I think it was for "internet points""
So the story is that someone who identifies as a woman, a young college student who actually kind of does look the part, decided that because Florida has a state law that in punishable by law regarding gender and bathrooms, that "she" was going to go down to Florida and intentionally use the women's restroom in a government building.
Florida doesn't really F**k around all that much when it comes to laws so of course, this person was arrested.
The thing is, I think that this is exactly what this person wanted to have happen so that they could score some internet followers on whatever they are trying to promote which isn't really the ideal that the are claiming to stand for, they want attention and sadly, our society gives attention to people that try to get it this way, and others will almost certainly follow suit.

I intentionally wrote over the self-promoting stuff... I'm not going to help these agitators who make other people's lives more difficult intentionally
This may surprise you, but even as a conservative, I honestly don't have a problem with people wanting to cross dress or do whatever it is with their pronouns and what not. I do draw the line at making problems for other people though and I am not talking about other people's feelings. While I am certain that there are plenty of people that believe they were born in the wrong body and will respectfully use the other bathroom, there are also a ton of people that will abuse this and well, make problems for other people. I don't have any kids, but I do know some fathers that would probably end up going to jail for assault if they saw a guy in a dress walk into a bathroom that their daughter was in.
Anyway, I don't want to get into that because it gets people far too worked up. The thing is, I don't want transgenders to be outlawed or anything like they claim is happening, I just want sensibility, is that honestly too much to ask?
Well this person has already, unfortunately, made the news in a lot of places for being the first person arrested in Florida for using the "wrong" bathroom even though she claims that she was only washing her hands.
I think that people were aware that "she" was there to stir up trouble because apparently a security guard asked her when entering the government building "why are you here?" or something along those lines and apparently "she" responded by saying "I'm here to break the law."
Now if you walk into a government building and say that, regardless of why you are there, isn't that kind of asking for it?
The thing is, I don't really believe that this person is really all that interested in fighting for the cause that they claim to, I think they wanted to get into the news so that they could promote themselves and their social-media channels, whatever they might be, and use it to get more attention and perhaps some of that Dylan Mulvaney money.
I am sure that conservative activists are guilty of this as well, but it does seem to me that more often than not, it is liberals that are doing this kind of stuff where they intentionally annoy people or intentionally break laws, so that they can get something for themselves.
On the day she said she would use the toilet, Rheintgen was allegedly met by two officers outside the bathroom who tried to work with her but she entered the bathroom regardless and was arrested.
She let them know well before her arrival that she was coming there specifically to do what she did. Then later, as you would expect, her social media blew up and she has this to say
“I actually didn’t think as many people would see the article as actually did.”
Maybe it is just because I am older, but I really cannot understand how people will do almost anything to get into the spotlight, even if it is for not so great reasons. I guess that is the society that we live in now. Unfortunately I think it is going to get a lot worse before it get better.
Your line about being a rational conservative reminded me of a story with Goldwater. He was always pro-choice, arguing that controlling what women do is not conservative and is no business of the government. When he was Mr Conservative and on top of the party, it was all good, but as soon as the next generation took over and pushed the party rightward, he found himself out of step with things. There is a story that at one point towards the end of his career he was sitting with Pat Buchanan and remarked on this party movement, saying "Looks like we are now liberals!"
But anyway, yeah, I'm with you. These people just want attention and are doing more harm for their movement than good. I saw that in Indiana there was a MAGA who showed up to a protest and seemed to just be looking for a reason to draw his gun and start a fight. These extremists on both sides are just nuts.
The are conservatives that go to lefty rallies and are just waiting for one of them to take a swing and then they KO the agitator. One guy is a conservative MMA fighter and at first I thought "good for you" but then when I found out that he is going to these things to specifically make this happen I was pissed. I would imagine that he had to stop eventually or got arrested because you can't really continue to claim self-defense when you have a page dedicated to how you trick people into swinging at you and then kick their butts.
Political opinion wasn't something that got you hurt back when I was in college. I would have found out if it did because I was a staunch W supporter and in college. College students hated that guy.
I think the trans activists think they are modern Rosa Parks standing against discriminatory unjust laws.
I also think they are drama queens most of the time.
I saw a tweet about exactly that. Right now I think the trans person is trying to seem like a "nice person" and maybe they are, but that doesn't change the fact that they intentionally broke the law, and planned to do it as well. I think this isn't the last that we see of this, other people who aren't as pleasant are going to follow suit.
IDGAF about people who "broke the law" if they violated no one's life, liberty, or property. And I would argue using the wrong toilet in a government building isn't an offense on the level of criminal trespass or anything.
this is a very good point. Unfortunately when it comes to sexual predators, the bathroom is kind of special ground because its not like we can put cameras in there. I do agree with you though. I just don't know if prosecuting people after the fact (once they do violate someone's life, liberty, or property) is the best answer in this situation.
it's kind of silly that we even have to have this discussion though. Because when I was younger everyone just used the bathrooms that were built for them.
I worry about the conflation of trans activists and pedos. The popular perception on the right is that they form a perfect circle in a venn diagram, but I'm unconvinced.
On the other hand, I suspect the trans movement is largely a bizarre blend of politics and .mental illness, with the former telling the latter that their problems are rooted in gender and how others perceived it.
The left says, "if you don't accept whatever someone tells you about their gender, you're literally murdering them."
The right says, "the trans want to molest your kids."
Yeah, the activist obsession with kids is creepy. No, disagreeing with someone's self-identification is not a violation of their rights. But is using the wrong bathroom really a crime?
in college, I routinely used the wrong bathroom because it was the only one available and women routinely did this as well. We never thought of it as a crime then so no, I don't believe it is a crime.
I don't think it takes a great deal of mental capacity to understand that these rules and laws that are being made are simply political in nature and the ends that people go to have this be the hill they are going to die on are pretty damn stupid. I mean, the example of a daughter being molested by a man in a dress is easily circumvented and when my sisters were very young, my father would always accompany them into the MEN'S bathroom, which I think any good parent would.
The idea that without this rule that kids are going to be getting molested left and right is utter nonsense for sure and most places have "family bathrooms" anyway.
However, I think that the reason that this became an issue in the first place is because some people with as you say "mix of politics and mental illness" really made a scene of it by having their junk out in fitness locker rooms took it to an extreme. Those cases should be punished of course, but the fact that they were not kind of lead us to this point... i think.
Don't have time for this nonsense and we knew it was coming eventually. I have no problem ether with whatever gender you are, but don't make it my problem either. Places like London where the tap water has been through the system 8 times probably more by now meaning someone drank it 8 times before you ad passed through their body. Yes it has been treated, but female hormones remain in the water ad depending on were you live this is going to change how people are. My family drinks bottled water and always has with this being one of the reasons.
wait, London reclaims urine and turns it back into drinking water?
Scientists are alarmed by the detection of estrogen levels in water, raising concerns about potential impacts on human and wildlife health, particularly due to the incomplete removal of estrogens by wastewater treatment plants and their presence in surface and drinking water sources.
This was from an article ad there are many of them you can google from 2004 onwards. Our pee is treated and sent to the rivers etc and often ends back as tap water. Thames Water uses the Thames Rive water once treated for tap water along with ground water, but the treated pee also flows into the Thames. Some estimates have it between 11 and 20 times now that this has passed through humans. Why I use bottled spring water. Oh and this is not just London as most countries do this today.
oh god.... oh, that's both funny and terrifying at the same time. I recall being in a rest stop that used vegetable oil instead of water for some reason in the urinals and it was just strange. I can't imagine that they stuck with that.
Most people likely do not have anything close to an optimal hormonal profile in the first place because of diet and lifestyle.
