North Carolina legislation going to strike down new "hemp restriction bill"

These things sort of take place without me ever knowing about them because I don't really smoke weed and while we do have a dispensary here it isn't really all that widespread. NC is one of the few states that has not legalized weed use but it has instead been decriminalized to the point where you will not see jail or even a permanent record if you have less than a certain amount on you.

While I have never been much of a user, even in my younger years, it has never been that difficult to get your hands on so I find the ban on it rather pointless. I also see no harm in smoking weed.

While I have seen some people become incredibly violent and dangerous when drunk, I have never seen someone that was really stoned decide to make a bunch of trouble. I don't think very many people ever had. The worst thing I can remember is a time I was in a car in college with a guy who was stoned and he stayed at a stopsign for a long time because I guess he was waiting for it to turn green so he could legally go.

NC's conservative nature sometimes pisses me off, and this is especially true when it comes to things like marijuana. The people who are in charge seem to think that it is going to result in mass mayhem or something and I think they don't really understand what the drug is all about.

While the state bans store for recreational use it was kind of funny when I don't know, a few years back, the Eastern Cherokee Indians declared marijuana legal on their territory and I don't know if you are aware of this, Indian reservations can do whatever the hell they want without permission from the US or State government. When they opened a store that was right across the border of their territory, I got a real kick out of the long lines that they had of people going to it right away.

I would imagine that the police considered pulling people over that went to this place but if that was ever being discussed I am glad they decided to not do that. While this state is leaning conservative one of the notions that people will rally behind regardless of political leanings is abuse of power on the part of police. So whoever decided to stand down as far as this store is concerned made a wise decision.

So lets get to what the title of this writeup is about in the first place. Recently, thousands of people protested in Raleigh (the capitol) about a potential bill that was going to seriously restrict hemp and marijuana industries and was going to be a real step backwards. They sought to make the THC upper limit so low to the point that it wouldn't really have any effect and they also wanted to restrict the purchase to people 21 years of age and older... not just for anything containing THC,but for hemp products that DON'T contain THC.

This is retarded. I am happy that the people protested and the people in charge of lawmaking in the state are apparently listening.

I don't know what the old folks in our state Congress are attempting to do here but I really will never understand how someone can stand behind the liquor and beer industries and at the same time attack marijuana. Attacking it to the point where you want to make the sale of the non drug product hemp illegal, is just asinine.

Combine this with the fact that the hemp and THC industry in NC is currently worth billions of dollars, and we have a bunch of people who are completely detached from reality that are in public elected office. What else is new, right?

The people who were in favor of this bill, who by the way are mostly now trying to distance themselves from it, initially said that the new laws were necessary to protect minors from having access to THC. I wonder if these people have ever been outside of their glass houses. When I was in high school all weed was illegal in EVERY state but you still had absolutely ZERO difficulty ever finding it.

If someone wants to smoke weed they are going to do so and no amount of old fuckers in suits making silly bills is going to change that.

It was reported a few days ago that the "statehouse" leaders decided to shelf the bill, meaning that it is dead in the water. Don't celebrate too much though, shelving a bill is like putting a video game on pause, it can be brought back at any time. I think the people that are in support of this silly legislation are waiting for the public eye to look somewhere else and in a few years they are going to bring it back.

I really can't understand why this is even a discussion. Our elected leaders are for the most part, morons
