Oh no, Rosie O'Donnell has left the country!

I don't understand these celebrities thinking that anyone really cares what they decide to do with their lives. It's a sort of self-absorbed stupidity that must be reserved for the celebrity class because there have been tons of people like Rosie who have said they are going to move away from USA because of Trump being President. So few of them have actually followed through and one of them is suspected of having immediately turned back around to move back. I'm referring to Elen Degeneres who made a really big and public ordeal about her "permanently" moving out of the USA, only to be spotted back in USA a week later.

I don't know if I ever found Rosie funny, I do recall seeing some stand-up routines of her when I was very young that might have made me laugh a bit, but she doesn't really stand out in my mind as someone particularly talented. I'm not going to criticize her too heavily on that though, because she has obviously done some things correctly in her life because she is very, very wealthy.

This doesn't change that fact that myself, and I think almost everyone else in the world that isn't related to her, doesn't give a bag of crap about the fact that she decided to leave the USA a few days before Trump was elected President. In a way I kind of see that sort of act as cowardly as well as egotistical. Just like with Ellen leaving, are we supposed to be sad? Do these people believe that their departure is somehow going to leave some sort of void that we will feel great regret about since we no longer have them here? I had honestly forgotten she was even alive until it was mentioned at the 2016 election debates.

As I am sure you know, Rosie has been a a very outspoken critic of Trump for many years but their feud isn't related to politics. It turns out that their spat with one another goes all the way back to 2006 when Trump had some sort of major involvement in the Miss USA tournament and he was lenient towards a winner of that pageant even though she had been accused of drug use and other things seen as less than wholesome.

O'Donnel, I guess thought that the girl should be stripped of her title but Trump said that the young woman, whose name is Tara Conner, should be given a second chance. When Rosie made disparaging remarks about this, Trump responded by simply saying that Rosie is "a real loser." Haha.

I would imagine not that many people are going to lament the fact that Rosie is no longer living in USA nor will they particularly care if she is awarded her Irish citizenship, which she is seeking. Since she is wealthy I have no doubt that she will get it if she really wants it.

The cynic in me though thinks that this is merely all self-serving for O'Donnel, because I don't think very many people have really even thought about her in quite some time. This put her in the news cycle again, hopefully for a very brief time and I would be willing to bet that this will be followed up by some sort of podcast or something or other, if it hasn't already.

I'm not a "love it or leave it" super patriot or anything. There are many aspects of my country that I do not like, but the detachment that celebrities have with normal people is something that I just find cringe as hell.

When I heard that O'Donnell had left the country and made numerous TikTok videos about having done so, my first reaction was "who cares?"

"And when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that’s when we will consider coming back."

Well if you are successful in changing your citizenship, you are gonna need a visa for that!

This is exactly the sort of grand-standing BS that makes me throw up a little bit when I read it. Honestly, who the hell looks to Rosie O'Donnell for guidance?

Basically, I think this is the reaction that 99% of people are going to have when learning that Rosie moved away.

Celebrities, regardless of who they like or don't like, need to STFU about politics but then again, for someone like Rosie, her career is basically over so I guess this is what she has to do in order to remain relevant.

I don't care about all the famous athletes, I don't care about all the movie actors, I don't care about all the musicians - I sincerely don't understand people who create idols for themselves. These are ordinary people and they are no different from any of us. You should be a fan of your family and your relatives and everything else is the delirium of an inflamed mind!

Just because someone is more successful than you at something doesn't mean that they are more capable of understanding anything else. When was the last time the world's greatest welder, for example, decided to hit us all up with their political feelings?

Idolization is not all bad though. Idolize someone for something they are actually good at, and then leave it at that.

Idolatry is hidden envy (a person may pretend that he loves his idol - but this is a lie)

Um, why? For that matter, why should anyone STFU about politics?

Meh. I’ve more than once thought about becoming an expat (mostly for economic reasons, fleeing from the current political hellscape secondarily), but with a son and two stepkids rooted here, I don’t think I’d be able to convince my wife to make the move (the south of France? Costa Rica? Portugal?) any time soon.

from what I hear being an expat coming from a country of great wealth (yours) going to 2/3 of the countries that you mentioned in your response... is a wonderful thing.

Who cares as obviously they think people are interested in what they are doing. Social media has screwed up peoples minds so much and shows how shallow society has become. This is not news worthy who is moving were and I am sure people will gladly help pack their bags.

I agree about the social media stuff. It's ruined normal people's minds and turned celebrities into megalomaniacs. I'm sure you remember how cringe the celebrities were during Covid. They just couldn't stand not being in the public eye and would put the most insane stuff on their social media like Degeneres crying in her $80 million mansion about how it's driving her crazy to not be able to go outside and if people would just listen to the government's instructions her suffering could end.

it is pretty funny that this feud is still going on. Rosie should be glad though because I think most people had forgotten that she even exists until the 2016 election. She maintains relevance by continuing the "beef."
