The Beautiful Morning Smells Like Change

The morning looks quite pacific and blue this day. This day. The day of some thorough change happening in the country. It has been over 27 years of regime oppressing the people and turning the screws one bit at a time. The latest things happening around in December where another up-tick of the bus fare and all other transportation fees. Then it was the dollar exceeding the threshold of 300 Bs. at the official exchange rate and over 500 in the black market and other media.
It has been months since we had the news of U.S Navy fleets stationed in the Caribbean Sea. Many news about boats being sunk had been broadcasted over national TV as tragedies. People being killed. People complaining. The other side of the stories talks about the Navy taking the matter of drug traffic into their own hands. The boats sunk were drug carrier. Who knows what is true among the versions. Some say the truth lies in the middle. Maybe it is so.
Amidst all this problem and many of the sanctions that have been constraining the population left and right. Yes, the population in general; but never the government. They have all the resources at their disposal. They are never hungry. They are never missing clothes. They get the medicine. They get everything. Reminds me of one those journals written by defectors of the Communist regime in the Soviet Union. A lot of complains about what the Party does. The Part is everything. They decided who is nothing. For most of the Venezuelan, we haven been that for too long, nothing.
So today my mother came into the room after she heard my alarm go off. She just told me there had been this broadcast for over hours. The President and is wife have been captured. There was a clinical strike. Bombardment of many military sites in the central coast of the country and the extraction of these two individuals. Everything was swift.
This begs the question:
Is this real?
It so happens it is. There have been tweets about it and then a press conference from the White House. There are broadcasts of people celebrating in foreign country. 8 million people who left the country because these rats got all the power. The news is not as alarming as I expected. Yes, it is good the guy at the top was removed. However, we all know he is just the puppet in the throne.
Will something else happen? I hope so. For the moment, I am wary of how the military will react to this. My mother says something about civil war. But what war? The people who live normal lives do not have arms. The military would massacre us. I do hope there is a sort of peaceful transition to get out of all these things. And the beginning of a new government that actually works for the people instead of for itself. It remains to be seen.
For now I will stay at home and keep about my life and, for once in my life, check the news broadcasts. Maybe today there will be something interesting.
This is quite the start of the year; but also part of the normal things that happen in the Country of Half Truths.
