Our Healthcare System is Depressing...

The picture that you are currently viewing is one that I captured a few days ago while on the road (I wasn't driving, calm down lol). The vehicle in this photo was driving around town, advertising the fact that they, or someone they know, is in need of an organ donor.

Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon practice; plenty of people partake in this last resort, seeking assistance through social media, newspaper ads, and community campaigns. I hold no malice for those who have to do it -- if anything, I feel the opposite. The fact that anyone has to go to this length for an organ donation is heartbreaking, and reflects the disturbing reality of these situations.

Here in Canada, healthcare is universal... but should it be? Is everyone entitled to a donation? Situations such as this photo cause me to ponder these questions... There is so much that I am personally opposed to: the belief that everyone is entitled to a medical team of professionals who have spent decades of their own time studying the field, the belief that everyone is entitled to medical treatment simply for existing, the belief that we can all make choices without facing consequences.

I am personally opposed to all of it, but universal healthcare has decided that, you wanted to be a chain smoker at 17?? come get a free lung!~ 😃👍

For example, the most common patients with kidney failure are individuals with diabetes and high-blood pressure; how many of those are experiencing symptoms due to their own choices? How many from poor diet and lifestyle? how many from becoming alcoholics? how many from refusing to control their anger/stress?

Why should anyone want to sacrifice one of their vital organs for others' selfish decisions?

As an ex-addict, I am allowed to say this shit lol. For once, let those with lived experience speak. Thank you; now here's my 2 cents...
I started doing cocaine because I was bored. I started smoking crack-cocaine simply because my then-boyfriend had offered it to me. I continued to smoke because I had no self-worth and advertently wanted to kill myself. Again, why should anyone sacrifice anything for my choices?

We as a society are constantly bombarded with the message that life is sacred; do not take it for granted. The stoics unearthed this discovery some 2,000 years ago to save us the trouble of doing it ourselves! My inability to recognize this truth in my 20s was no one else's problem.

My philosophy is simple: I only grant empathy to those who have no control over their situations. Children, genetics, disabled... The ones who make deliberate choices are never entitled to anything.

Anyway, thanks so much for reading 🙏 Sorry if this wasn't the right place to post, if this was too insensitive, etc. etc. Hoping everybody has a blessed week 🙏🙏
