RE: Are We 21st Century Pirates?

I first learned about the Barbary pirates in Marine boot camp. It is the origination of the Marine officers sword a variation carried to this day.
The Mameluke sword in the Marine Corps originated from a sword presented to First Lieutenant Presley O'Bannon by the Ottoman viceroy, Prince Hamet, in 1805 after the Marines' successful actions at the Battle of Derna during the First Barbary War.
With regard to Hormuz. I am not sure if it will ever return to normal. Not until a new administration takes over. One with more sanity and experience.

I didn't know that about the marine sword. Fascinating bit of history trivia. It makes sense. We were such a young nation and we had a moment of glory. That moment of glory was commemorated in the form of the Marine officers' sword. Wow.
History was my undergraduate major. History teaches me that you can't unwind the clock. It also teaches me that war is a monster--unpredictable, erratic, willful. No matter why someone starts a war it never goes according to plan.
Thanks for this most interesting response.
I am not a very interesting person, but occasionally have some interesting tidbits.
