I read this news that in the United States, during the "National Gathering for Prayer and Repentance" organized by the Family Research Council at the Museum of the Bible, Texas Congressman Brian Babin publicly prayed thanking God for having "answered the prayers" of Americans, "giving us a new president", referring to Donald Trump, and for having given the country "a different direction" compared to the past four years. But if you think this is bad, the best is yet to come.

In the continuation of his speech, he spoke of "apostasy", "blasphemy", of children being led "down the path of homosexuality and perversion", obviously, thanks to God, Trump arrived to stop all this. He then added that the government will not save America, but that it will be up to the people to return to the path traced by God for the Founding Fathers.

His conservative political stance may be liked or not; it is a personal preference that I am not interested in discussing. The problem is the transformation of a political agenda into a divine plan. If a president is "sent by God", then anyone who criticizes him and the opposition is not just a political adversary: they are someone opposing a divine will, and this is very reminiscent of the Inquisition.

Politics must be secular; secularity does not serve to silence believers, it serves to prevent some madman from governing by claiming to speak on behalf of God.
