Gormless.
As none of you will remember, I posted a riveting exposé last year on the Irish Government’s €336,000 parliamentary bike shed. Well, forget that... (I know, I know, you already have) because there’s worse!
In a country where 16,000 people are officially homeless, where you can’t get a house for love nor money, where 60% of the population is on some form of state handout, and the national debt now tops €239 billion, what pressing priority has the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, James Lawless (pictured below), announced?

Well, and this is no joke, the princely sum of 568,000, yes, more than half a million euro is to be spent on much needed and vital research into...wait for it...gender balance in opera. Opera? 568,000 euro? The minister is mad. Sure you’d almost get two bike sheds for that! He should be locked up in a secure facility immediately, if not sooner, for his own good, and more importantly, for ours.
Can someone remind me again why it is we need government? Oh yeah. Without government, who'd build the roads?

Hahahahaha! Can this world get any more surreal? Yes, I believe it can. Although this nonsense has veered into perversity if you ask me.
I think they dream up this nonsense to have a jolly good belly laugh at the useless eaters, while they sit back, on the public purse, gorging themselves on caviar and single malt.
I really wonder what sort of IQ some of these officials have.
If politicians were tested for IQ, there'd be far fewer of them. I'd also test them for psychopathy!
Hahaha well here they spent thousands for school desks for kids with wheels...
Kids with wheels? That's novel!:)
There is, bought for 150 and sold now for 1 by schools

And I thought her in Cuba was the only place where stupid and senseless financial atrocities occurred. The minister has a house, that's for sure, but he doesn't have much shame. He's fit to be skinned like a chicken.
Alas, where there is government, there is malfeasance. I say off with all of their heads!
I can really understand the frustration here. Spending such a big amount on opera research while people are struggling with homelessness and debt does feel misplaced. It makes you wonder if the government is really focusing on the most urgent problems that affect people’s daily lives.
I believe politics is less about serving the public and more about wielding power to punish your enemies and reward your friends, with pots of other people's money and zero accountability.
