I try not to be judgemental, but I do hold everyone to the same standard of integrity, regardless of their background or circumstances. I've never subscribed to the idea that being underprivileged gives someone a free pass to cheat, steal, or take advantage of others. We all know the difference between right and wrong.

Yes, that's what I mean with "it's not an excuse". It just isn't. It's important to consider, but if you do a bad action, you'll face the consequences. But knowing where a person comes from can help to choose the adequate consequences. Some can't be helped. Others can, and probably in different ways.
