Time to Leave?
I was standing in line at the post office today, doing my usual Wednesday shipment of packages... a pretty normal thing when you're in the business of selling online and people need to get their stuff!
The woman being helped at the counter was having a discussion with the postal clerk about getting her mail forwarded to Portugal. Evidently, she and her husband are moving to Portugal. For good.
The conversation unfolded a bit further and a couple of other people at the post office joined in the discussion and I soon realized that more than half the people waiting to be helped were talking about moving permanently out of the US to a foreign country.
A couple of people were talking about Ireland because it's a very similar climate to where we live here and it's "nice and green" and there are rugged coastlines and quaint small towns much like our own.
Funny asides were exchanged about the rain and fog.
To be honest, it's not the first time I've ever heard a discussion like this, in the past six months or so. Seems like the idea of getting out of town and heading to a foreign country is on more than a few people's minds, at least around here.
I'd be lying if I didn't admit that Mrs. Denmarkguy and I have had periodic discussions about the possibility of going back to my native Denmark if the shit really hits the fan, and the USA starts looking like it's really going to come off the rails.
It's a very strange world in which we live and frankly it's getting a little more unnerving day by day. I guess a lot of people are just biding their time, going on the assumption that the current administration in Washington DC only has another couple of years to go and then it'll be somebody else.
Of course the problem with that is that it assumes that the current social construct that exists here will be left intact for such things as "free elections" and a "change of government" to even be possible. Seems to me there's an actual possibility that some kind of craziness will happen that will either negate or completely preclude having elections when the time comes.
It seems like virtually every day some new debacle arises that makes us all shake our collective heads.
I've always worried about something that I have called "the power of the apathetic middle" here in this country. The nation often ends up being run by the extreme ends because so many people either don't show up to make their voice heard or they operate under the illusion that the two parties are basically the same and nothing will change so why bother?
I think that's a rather dangerous attitude to have, and an attitude that could force you to go with the flow that doesn't at all represent what you believe is good or right.
Regardless, it'll be interesting to see what the midterm elections bring, and whether the results are allowed to stand if they don't necessarily support the current administration.
While I don't exactly have my bags packed yet, I am definitely continuing to keep one eye on the exit door. And, frankly? It makes me a little bit nervous that I am living in the year 2026 and I'm writing these words.

If I have the financial resources to leave my country, Ireland is one of my choices. New Zealand is number 1. How's the size of government bureaucracy in Denmark? Is it getting bigger? How about taxation?
Stick with New Zeeland, stay out of Ireland.
If the Democrats win the next election, we simply trade one kind of extremism for another. Neither one works. I think that's where the apathy comes in. Both parties want to tax us to death, only for differing purposes. Each new administration inherits problems that have been created by previous administrations, sometimes for many years. Nobody can ever fix all of it.
They are both heading toward the same objective. A more socialist construct. There is always an action for a reaction, for example, US Digital Services, brought in to fix the Obama care mess, never left and went on to upgrade technologies for other government agencies. Once DOGE came about, that's what US Digital Services transpired into, they took over USDS, and the work done under USDS only need at that point, was filling in a lot of blanks for the new programming, hence, DOGE running in and out of government agencies with servers in their hands, so to speak. Where did they go? Well, under executive order of the president, America By Design, came The National Design Studio, behind the executive office of the president run by former veteran DOGE staffers, where they are neatly tucked in spying on Americans who go onto government websites, and where they are tracking all this fraud, waste and abuse they are claiming to find. These duplicate websites, first discovered by a rather eccentric but savvy internet sleuthed on substack, Drey Dossier, was investigated by The Guardian, and was found to be true.

This is why people need to pay more attention to The America First Policy Institute. A coalition of both democrats and republicans likeminded to the same agenda. This is why it is getting increasingly harder to establish much of a difference between candidates as we are looking at them building out a unicameral governance that doesn't act like one but is one. This why it's hard to go vote anymore once you can see it, like here, the reality is, no matter who you pick for governor, they are both one and the same, same with a senate seat here, both are the same. People can't see it because of the hate and rhetoric involved but they are aligned to the same agenda. This socialist vs MAGA both aligned under the agenda of the AFPI. AFPI came together as a result of those from both parties establishing that nothing ever gets accomplished because of changing agenda's between administrations. This is why the purging of government employees to likeminded individuals, and the AFPI decides in advance who gets seated in the next administrations in advance, and who will get approved for vetted positions, why you see so many unqualified individuals passing the vetted positions, they don't have to be qualified, they just have to be likeminded to the agenda and those behind the scenes who have established what the agenda will be.
I hate to be the one to tell you this, but it more likely than not you will be going in the wrong direction. Though if SHTF in Europe, I am more inclined they'll aim for Poland first because of its strong nationalist ties. They want to break that nasty habit of people who are strong nationalist identities. We have to go back to Obama for this one on the agenda list, "The more civilized society seems to be, the more susceptible it is to its buried atavisms." Once they took care of the Italy, Ukraine and Gaza financial burdens on the international banking system, the trend appears to be moving toward the goal of breaking down national norms, and would be why Iran has to fall first in that regard, as a result of that, it has the possibility of breaking down internally smaller countries on their own who may opt to resist their new regional global alignment.
