Musings on Crypto...Time to Dive In?
February 10, 2025:
I’ve been obsessively reading about Bitcoin, crypto and blockchains this week. As I sit on my couch writing this, I’ve listened to 4 different pod casts today, watched numerous YouTube videos and researched articles on line. This is in addition to waking up at 5am to get my day 8 hour desk job and running errands.
I live in Canada, fairly peaceful country, though not without its issues and imperfections. However, lately I haven’t been feeling all that safe. That sense of national security that I was raised with, has been slowly eroding and giving way to a faint, niggling sense of panic. At 42 years of age, I live alone, no partner, no children, in a 1 bedroom rented suite, that I’ve lived in for 10 years because I can’t afford to move with the inflation. I am in debt, I have a one year post-secondary education and eventually , AI is going to replace me as an individual in the next 1-3 years – or so all the headlines are screaming.
I don’t say any of this to evoke pity, but to share my commentary and hopefully start useful discourse with others than anything else. Politics, religion, ideologies, everything is getting shaken as if there’s this unseen force (malevolent?) sweeping through every social and financial construct that humanity has managed to cobble together over the past millennia.
The media headlines are pure dark and comedic hysteria; the speed of the news cycle is nearing hurricane levels. It’s eerie that I’m wondering if there is some invisible hand controlling the current chaos ? Like, was the plan to destabilize governments and financial institutions – (I’m thinking of the US defunding their own Education department) to restart at some hypothetical ground zero and what we’re seeing is the theatrical smoke and mirrors? Canada-U.S. relations just have me sad and hope is eroding that we'll find our way back. However, hope is still there that we may find our way to something better? A phrase that's stuck with me my whole life - change is the only constant in life and it's constantly uncomfortable.

These are two of the podcasts that I listened to today. I’m not saying I agree with anything that’s being said, but I have to wonder if this is fear-mongering or if there’s something here? Some questions I have for anyone who has the time and patience to respond:
Do you think Crypto will destabilize the world and create a new social structure and true equity?
Will fiat currency truly disappear? I have a hard time thinking that Governments the world over will quit finding ways to track and control their citizens.
I hope to hear from any of those kind enough to read my musings and respond. Please be kind and I send my best wishes for a brighter day tomorrow.
