I recall a time when i was younger that my parents wouldn't use ID but would just go to a place that had a voter roll and they would vote based on that. it was on paper back then. These days I think we have a much more corrupt society then we did back then and therefore there has to be additional security and yes, ID as well. I really can't figure out how anyone would be opposed to this and believe it is all political grandstanding when they do.

Did you live in a high trust society? I would imagine that you did. I grew up in one and still live in it now. When I go to do certain things they already know my name but still ask for ID. It is just part of the process.
