It's about power, if you ask me. It's about the "correct people", as you mentioned.
Btw, Amsterdam is attractive to many but not only for its weed policy. They have more to offer, different culture as well. So weed alone won't make the country heaven or paradise.
Thailand is on a slippery slope and it won't end well if they don't pull themselves together.

oh I wasn't trying to suggest that Holland was only popular because of weed. There's also world-class prostitution. lol. Just kidding. I know there is a lot of amazing architecture and some amazing sites to see there as well. Since I don't engage in weed or prostitution, the other things would appeal to me a great deal more.
😆I know you were not trying to suggest that Holland was only popular because of weed, but I bet Thai authorities though weed alone would bring huge changes.
And yes, the cultural offer of The Netherlands is amazing.
