I certainly find the behavior of the president of the USA quite erratic, at least in his exterior policies. Tariffs yes no yes no yes no, Ukraine yes no yes no yes no. I can see the goals, of course, as a car can see the end of the street, the next crossing or whatever is the next point of likely change to the bicycles behavior (yes, we’re still working with that metaphor). But I never know in which direction he will sway next.

There are two schools of thought: one is that Trump is playing 4d chess and is many moves ahead of everyone, the other is that Trump is just "shooting from the hip" and doesn't have a long-term strategy at all.

Personally, I think it's somewhere between - his decision options are limited by information given to him and he doesn't always make the best choices, but he really is a fantastic negotiator. If you ever watch a good negotiator as a third party, the one who gets the best deal usually looks like an erratic crazy person. The end-product is usually an outcome that many would assume was impossible.

“It’s no good, it’s no good!” says the buyer — then goes off and boasts about the purchase. Proverbs 20:14

I think he does have a finale vision of what he wants for the US and as zig-zaggy the path seems to be, I think it's going the correct direction. But because of his influence, his mistakes are much more costly than the mistakes of an average inept politician. Many legit criticisms of Trump, but he is not an average inept politician.

Thank you very much for your comment! I really hope that you're right, and that the outcome will be positive for all of us. I do think the same, or maybe it's just the hope. Time will tell!
