There is absolutely no doubt that bad governance is thriving in most African countries because most of the leaders we elect into power to oversee the welfare and economic system of the country have become greedy and selfish, all they want to do is to grow in power and acquire more wealth for themselves and their families.

In terms of growth and development of the country, there is absolutely nothing to write home about because almost every sector that enhances growth for the people of the country is in shambles. Take for instance, the Healthcare sector is so bad that people are scared to go to government hospitals because they are not sure of getting the treatment they deserve. Other sectors that are lacking because of the lackadaisical attitude of our leaders are the educational sector, transportation, economy, bad roads, kidnapping, insecurities and so on.

If as a country that employs the Democratic system of government to operate on the welfare of the people cannot fully carry out their duties, an autocratic system of governance is totally a bad idea. Simply put, an autocratic system of government is one that allows a single person or small group of people to control power over a country. In this case, the opinions and thoughts of the people or citizens are limited because the ruler who is elected to be the leader in an autocratic system of government has the absolute Power to make decisions autonomously.

In a democratic system of government, the power belongs to the people through carrying out their franchise of voting but in the autocratic system, the power is concentrated in the hands of one one person or the ruler. There are several reasons why autocracy would not work in Nigeria, which is a diverse country with numerous ethnic groups. One of the core reasons is due to the fact that, in an autocratic system people would not be able to speak freely and criticize government officials like they do in a democratic system.

A country like Nigeria, would face great trauma giving that the issues in the country that surround corruption, poverty, insecurity, tribalism and so on, people are supposed to have the opportunity to give their opinions on matters concerning how the government operates and also offer viable Solutions. In essence, autocratic system with only silence the people.

In addition to this, one of the downsides of autocratic system of government is the abuse of power. Nigeria has experienced autocratic rule before via the military and it's brought about dictatorship. When this happened, they violated and trampled on the people's Human rights and Suppressed their freedom.

But right now, I think Nigeria is governed by an Autocratic system of government. It's so sad how that they claim it is Democratic but yet, the masses have no say.
