Venezuela's Longest Sleepless Night
We were awaken at about 2:00 am by the sound of explosions.
This night be considered a chronicle of a foretold event. It was meant to happen anytime after so much political and social conflict.
However, after years of deceptions and failed attempts to reverse the fateful course the country had taken, most people did not expect anything at all to happen.
Well, it did happen (sort of). From our windows we had a limited view of the explosions. They lasted for about 20 mins. Some were too far away to see.
We heard aircrafts flying, but no diré exchange or battle.
Then, came the tense calm. Nervousness, social media binge, the expected bombardment of fake news and speculation; then, uncertainty.
The US government has announced the arrest of Nicolás Maduro and his wife during the attacks.
Maduros' followers still control the military, therefore they continue being the defacto government.
Analysts speculate about some betrayal, rendition? Negociation?
The US government says there won't be any more attacks.
The people still hold their breath not knowing what will happen next.
No many dare to go out even though the city looks/feels peaceful, normal even.
The following ours will be a mix of excitement, fear, and uncertainty.

Much appreciated. I will post later about Trump's statements, which (as expected) complicate things (inside and outside). Calmed afternoon. Lots of news and analyses, lots of fake and/or interested reports too. For the average Venezuelan (with zero investment in the ruling administración) it has been a paradoxical day, which was supposed to produce joy and relief, but which has turned into a big question mark

We are ok so far.
Tonight may be as long and uncertain as last night. Was not able to go out Today and report from the streets. All reports from friends indicate little commerce activity (price speculation, though), lots of military and paramilitary activity and tons of questions
Interesting perspective, I have seen several videos where intense explosions, smoke and fire can be heard and seen. Looked like secondary detonations in one of the posted videos.
Stay safe as Trump said unless Venezuela fully cooperates there will be a much larger second attack...
The aching tooth was not extracted. The regime is intact because for two-and-a decades they have closed ranks and remained consistente with their goals. They will no leave peacefully. They may not have military power to respond to US attacks, but they certainly have enough to kill inocent unarmed civilians.
Judging by the defacto vice president's statements, there will be a second wave.
The operation was basically a statement that US can do whatever they want in Venezuela. Now it's about making the remaining people in Venezuela government to cooperate with Marko Rubio and do what we consider in our national interest.
Thank you for your perspective and sharing your report from the area. It sounds like maybe 40 people were killed in the initial bombing run (military and civilians) so I hope there isn't a second wave, but I do think it's probably likely. I imagine there will be a lot of confusion in the days and weeks to come so I truly hope you and your friends and family remain safe.

I hope the outcome is Venezuelan independence, and not a tropical version of the Iraq war, but I have no faith in the US government. This is about power and resources, not liberty. Trump violated the Constitution in waging undeclared war, so he has no respect even for his own oath to his own people.
