this is absolutely correct. Outside of the perhaps mostly fictional people in movies, I don't think this is at all glamorous. The gambling that I witness in this country seem to be country people that can barely afford to eat and when we consider how little money they have, they are truly "gambling" since they cannot afford to lose at all.
