All those books you see in the picture at some point I reviewed them here and it's been a while since I didn't read anything new, I like reading but it's a habit that is hard for me to get started. Fortunately I was recently able to change that and I finished reading this great classic of literature written by the American Ray Bradbury. It is a book that has been published more than 70 years ago, but the relevance of its pages with respect to the world we are living in is alarming. And it is so because the author at that time describes the world of the book as a dystopia where having one's own criteria, thinking, having the ability to question things, in short, having different opinions is considered a crime.

Todos esos libros que ven en la foto en algún momento los reseñé por acá y es que ha pasado un tiempo desde que no leía nada nuevo, me gusta la lectura pero es un hábito que me cuesta hacer arrancar. Afortunadamente hace poco pude cambiar eso y terminé de leer este gran clásico de la literatura escrito por el estadounidense Ray Bradbury. Es un libro que tiene más de 70 años de publicado pero la vigencia que tienen sus páginas con respecto al mundo en el que estamos viviendo es alarmante. Y lo es porque el autor en aquel momento describe el mundo del libro como una distopía en donde tener criterio propio, pensar, poseer la capacidad de cuestionar las cosas, en fin, tener diferentes opiniones es considerado un crimen.

This story narrates the experiences of a totally dystopian and dark future where books are forbidden. Yes, in this country it is illegal to have books because the authorities want your mind as moldable as possible. To achieve that there is Montag, a fireman who is not as he should be and instead of putting out fires and fire, he provokes them. He does this by burning every book that comes his way. A task he seems to enjoy very much until he reaches a moment of inflection. I think the most impressive thing about the book, as I said before, is that we are not far from that “reality”, in fact there are countries where reading what should not be read can be fatal.

Esta historia narra las vivencias de un futuro totalmente distópico y oscuro en donde los libros están prohibidos. Si, en este país es ilegal tener libros porque las autoridades te quieren con la mente lo más moldeable posible. Para lograr eso está Montag, un bombero que no es como debería y es que vez de aplacar los incendios y el fuego, los provoca. Lo hace quemando todo libro que se tope en su camino. Una tarea que parece disfrutarla mucho hasta que llega a un momento de inflección. Creo que lo más impresionante del libro, tal y como lo dije antes, es que no estamos nada lejos de esa "realidad", de hecho hay países en donde leer lo que no se debería puede ser fatal.

The premise of it all is that this is a kind of critique and reflection of many societies. In this book the intention is to show this place as one where conformism, consumerism and ignorance are idealized in such a way that people live for being more and more immersed in these conditions. That “governments want you to be docile” or the famous saying “bread and circuses” is explained here to perfection. We will see how people are given to huge screens, to feed the mind with useless things and seek to be more materialistic. Basically it highlights the great importance of books when it comes to forging knowledge and for people to become much more human through reading. Seeing the non-existence of all this, we understand that without books we will eventually be lost.

La premisa de todo es que esto es una especie de crítica y reflejo de muchas sociedades. En este libro la intención es mostrar a este lugar como uno en donde el conformismo, el consumismo y la ignorancia están idealizados de tal manera que las personas viven por estar cada día más inmersos en estas condiciones. Aquello que de los "gobiernos te quieren dócil" o el famoso dicho "pan y circo" acá se explica a la perfección. Veremos como las personas están entregadas a inmensas pantallas, a alimentar con cosas inútiles la mente y buscar ser más materialistas. Basicamente se destaca la gran importancia de los libros a la hora de forjar conocimiento y de que la gente logre ser mucho más humana mediante la lectura. Al ver la inexistencia de todo esto pues entendemos que sin los libros estaremos perdidos eventualmente.

The book is very easy to read, it is not long, with a little more than 200 pages where the way everything is written makes it very easy to visualize the panorama. The author does not use complicated words I think to make it less complicated to get an idea of the reality. For me it is a distressing book because the level of reflection that you are left with after reading is very high, the truth is capable of making you question many things that you probably already knew but that Fahrenheit 451 came to remind you. By the way the book is so called because it is the temperature at which the paper burns.

El libro se lee de forma muy sencilla, no es largo, cuenta con poco más de 200 páginas en donde la forma en la que está redactado todo hace muy fácil visualizar el panorama. El autor no usa palabras complicadas creo yo para que sea menos complicado hacerse la idea de la realidad. Para mi es un libro angustiante porque el nivel de reflexión que te queda después de leer es muy alto, la verdad es capaz de que te llegues a cuestionar muchas cosas que probablemente ya sabías pero que Fahrenheit 451 vino a recordártelas. Por cierto el libro se llama así porque es la temperatura en la que arde el papel.

If you are looking for a book that makes you think, that shakes your mind a little, I recommend this one without hesitation. At some point I had been told about it but when I read it I realized how introspective it can be. And it is so because I personally live in a country with some of those characteristics that are related here and it is alarming the similarities and everything that is lived. I think that's why I liked it so much, it was easy for me to empathize with the resistance in that society. A great book.

Si estás buscando un libro que te ponga a pensar, que sacuda un poco tu mente sin duda te recomiendo este sin dudarlo. En algún momento me habían hablado de él pero cuando lo leí si caí en cuenta lo introspectivo que puede ser. Y es así porque personalmente vivo en un país con algunas de esas características que se relatan acá y es alarmante las similitudes y todo lo que se vive. Creo que por eso es que me gustó tanto, se me hizo fácil empatizar con la resistencia que hay en dicha sociedad. Un gran libro.

Lo leí hace años. Es excelente. El contexto imaginado por Bradbury ya cambió. Hoy hay miles de libros tanto físicos como digitales, disponibles en tiendas virtuales. Y miles de clásicos de descarga gratuita. Esta suerte se la debemos a la Era digital. Donde no se equivocó el autor fue en la capacidad de elección de la generación futura. Ya la mayoría de las personas no elige leer, imaginar lo que imaginó el autor de un libro. El consumismo fácil es lo imperante. Claro, es una decisión personal, porque libros hay miles. Esta época es el paraíso de los libros.
