I find your post interesting. In Venezuela, before Chavismo, we had an open-door policy for immigrants for decades (there was no immigration control to expel anyone), leading to nearly a third of the country's total population being immigrants or descendants of immigrants. Now, this has had its good and bad aspects. On the positive side, European and Latin American immigrants enriched the national cuisine with dishes from their countries, opened new businesses, helped with commerce, etc. But on the other hand, the lack of regulation increased levels of violence from common criminals. There were Colombian criminals who brought their techniques of torture, extortion, and murder and taught them to Venezuelan criminals, which led to our crime becoming much more dangerous during the Chavista era of the 21st century.
In short, well-planned immigration can be good for the economy, but poorly planned immigration can bring other conflicts and can even serve as a school of crime for local populations.
