IGP DAMPARE SACKED

There is a mixed feelings growing among the ranks and files of the Ghana Police Service with the news of the current IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare’s retirement. Since the new government took office on January 7, 2025, there has been calls from different stakeholders for the new president John Daramani Mahama to appoint a new IGP and sack the current one. Even some personnel of the the Ghana Police Service joined the call for the IGP to be sacked and they gave various reasons including vindictiveness, discrimination, nepotism, unconvensionality and non judicial killings of suspected criminals amongst others.
At the back of all these there have been news of the IGP falling on the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Tinubu to aid in lobbying for him (IGP) to be maintained. There has also been news of the IGP heading to court to prevent any premature retirement as he is not due for retirement by age. These and many more occurrences showed that the IGP is not willing to vacate his office anytime soon.
The news of his resignation came in the early hours of today and it has made waves and sent nostalgic feelings across. Whiles others are rejoicing over the news we are waiting to recieve the official communique from the presidency.

Of course we all know why they want him sacked. I don’t know which IGP can actually do better than him. Well, let’s see.

I have always heard some remarkable achievements from the IGP since his appointment by the previous government. The thing is when you try to create a system that deals with corruption, you become an enemy, probably that may be one of the reasons why they want him out of office. Unless I'm wrong about him but I have always heard good things about him until now.

It is not entirely true from my lenses. He became the most popular IGP of all times not because he has achieved more that his predecessors but because he used the media to project his achievements.
Listening to lots of Police officers, he has has done more harm than good to the police service.
