The problem I have is that when he first told the public about his plans, he said no part of the East wing would be touched. Like everything he has ever told us, it was a lie he always changes what he says. In other words, he out and out lies! You are correct, he tries to keep us distracted from what he is really doing.

I hadn't been paying attention to the ballroom plan at all until people started pitching fits online. I don't know what promises he may have made before. I can only say that as a draftsman, I am concerned the pace of design and construction Trump favors is likely to result in some bad decisions architecturally. There does seem to be a focus on the Greco-Roman neoclassical motif still, but his casino aesthetic could make it very tacky very fast. The building also needs a lot of engineering based on DC's swampy soil, so if they cheap out on the foundation, the whole thing will be compromised. I wouldn't be surprised if a gaudy, unstable eyesore is the coutcome.
I agree, if he has anything to do with the design, it will be tacky.
