A Political Earthquake in Washington: AIPAC Wields the Financial Weapon—and a Democratic Rift Threatens the Shield Protecting Israel!

The American political landscape is witnessing an unprecedented shift that is shaking the long-standing foundations of unconditional support for Israel. AIPAC (the American Israel Public Affairs Committee) has taken the unusual, retaliatory step of withholding and suspending online donations to more than a dozen prominent Democratic lawmakers—including high-ranking figures such as Representative Katherine Clark. This direct financial sanction was a response to the 103 Democratic representatives who voted in favor of a legislative amendment seeking to reduce the $3.3 billion in annual military aid provided to Israel.

Although the amendment failed due to Republican opposition, the figure of 103 representatives marks a massive leap from the mere 37 who supported a similar measure two years ago. This reveals deep fissures and a sharp divide within the Democratic Party, as well as open defiance of Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, driven by the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and ongoing violations in the West Bank.

This shift goes beyond a mere "protest vote"; it reflects an ideological and generational realignment within the American Left. A recent poll by Ipsos and The Washington Post indicates that approximately 75% of Democrats support reducing aid, while 40% call for its complete elimination. Conversely, the primaries are witnessing a striking rise of progressive candidates who openly reject AIPAC funding, deeming the political and electoral costs of accepting money from the Zionist lobby to be greater than the benefits; meanwhile, traditional Democratic lawmakers have warned that this mounting discontent represents a genuine and historic "wake-up call" for US-Israeli relations.
