European court forbids Hungary to freeze prices of certain foods to battle inflation

EU dictatorship

Victor Orban, the Hungarian president is sometimes described as a dictator but today the European Union showed who the real dictator is.

Orban and his government had imposed a law to freeze the price of certain base foods like bread, milk, eggs and butter. This act was intended to counter inflation and worked quite well as it had a cyclical effect on other goods’ prices. But some retailers found this law in violation with the European legislation and took it to the Supreme Court. Yesterday the verdict was that the imposed law needed to be lifted immediately and prices could be chosen freely by the retailers.

Out of the box

I have to admit, the imposed law is somewhat different and can raise eyebrows. But if it is only temporary I see no problem in it. During the energy crisis prices of gas and electricity were frozen by the government too in France. And then there was no problem for the European Union.

Budapest, Hungary

It seems like the EU wants to give Victor Orban and his administration a hard time. But they have already responded that they will neglect the verdict and will keep on doing what is needed to fight inflation in the country…

To be continued.

Sincerely,

Price control is communism... then again when there is a central bank its already communism.
