Trump’s gratuitous war on Iran has turned into a remarkable quagmire — remarkable because the only thing keeping the war going is Trump’s vanity. He effectively lost the war in the first few days, when it became apparent that Iran’s hardline regime had survived the initial decapitation strike and that the U.S. military couldn’t keep the Strait of Hormuz open.
But Trump is psychologically incapable of admitting failure. So the war goes on, weakening America by the day, as he searches for some way to spin his abject defeat as a victory.

Trump Administration Admits Canceling Grants to States That Did Not Vote for Him
In little-noticed court documents, federal officials acknowledged this month that they had terminated the funding ‘based solely’ on political criteria, targeting projects in states that were represented by Democrats and had voted for Kamala Harris, the party’s presidential nominee, in the 2024 election.
The admission showed how President Trump has weaponized the provision of federal education, energy, health, housing and infrastructure aid in his second term. Far from rooting out the sort of misspending that Mr. Trump sees as rife in Washington, the White House has instead sought to leverage the budget as a tool to assist its allies — or as a cudgel to hurt the president’s foes.

I never understood the lies and confusion around tariffs. When they are not surgically applied, they have proven to be disastrous economically for both sides. How goddamn stupid are people to believe they are a tax on importers and not just a grift/punishment of the businesses and people in the country applying the tariffs?! Load up the governmental coffer on the backs of their own people, then NOT use that money to serve the people, protect the environment or promote peace that is felt at home?
I am certainly hoping my American friends can endure this crumbling of all that was beautiful about the country, people, system and ideals.
