"For no particular reason..." #8 - If it's about politics, don't call it science.
I was caught in one of those modern events advertised as scientific meeting that soon turned into an expositive lecture right before turning into a hardcore shameless political activism rally. I guess I never had patience for this kind of things but nowadays I have zero tolerance. Even if it is true (which was not the case), if someone prepares a talk around the guidelines "Science say x, and we got y because of politician z." naming some names, and convenientely forgetting others... you're attending a political event, not a scientific one. The main goal clearly was to badmouth a couple of people (not that they don't deserve it) and the method was to come up with a series of arguments (facts, twisted facts, partial truths, opinions) regarding a wide range of topics and force them to fit a poorly disguised agenda. All good. There's room for all that and more. Just have the courage to advertise it as it really is.

One of my mental shelves broke when I asked the question:
"What exactly is "political science?"
The sad answer is that it is the sience of manipulating the body politic.
Base manipulation does not lead to a better world.
