I quite admire the tenacity with which Ukraine is resisting Russia. It's just not clear to me where it wants to find more troops. Because it has fewer and fewer soldiers.
Germany was also divided for many years, but eventually diplomacy managed to bring it back together.
Would it not have been better to preserve the lives of the young men, and as time goes on wait for the opportunity to regain the lost territories?

Lots of things one could say about the issues you raise. Here's a few!
Ukraine's army is actually bigger than all of Europe's combined at the moment. What they lack is not troops. What they lack is weapons and money. Ukraine's war could have been won yesterday if, say, Europe gave 0.2% of its GDP instead of 0.1%.
Or if the sanctions against Russia, which are only a 6 out of 10, were a 10 out of 10 (the "nuclear option" as Bill Browder calls it).
The 6 out of 10 isn't even enforced: the actual sanctions are more like a 3 out of 10.
There's lots of military positions that don't have anything to do with active warfare. The West could send troops to fill those military positions, which would free up Ukrainian troops to go and fight for their land.
It's not by any means certain that if Ukraine took the pacifist path that you recommend, that eventually Ukraine would be freed. Take Constantinople ("Istanbul"), for example: it doesn't seem like it will become Greek again anytime soon!
I'm from Cyprus. We're a peaceful people. We don't attack the Turkish side like the Palestinians do with Israel. So we have peace. But half our island has been occupied for the last 51 years. How long would Ukraine have to wait?
It's not like Ukraine doesn't want a ceasefire. It has proposed a full and unconditional ceasefire like a month and a half ago. Russia rejected it. It proposed its own limited ceasefire that it violated as soon as it was accepted.
Last but not least, Ukraine already tried your proposal, and it led to the so-called "second invasion". If it tries the same, the same will happen again. Russia will take advantage of the time to rebuild, strengthen, and, as you say, "wait for the opportunity" to attack again to take the whole of Ukraine, as Trump has now accidentally admitted!
