The state of our health system||the call for an immediate action
Greetings!
Happy weekend to everyone on the Hive blockchain. You are all welcome to my blog.
As we all know, health is wealth. Without sound health, wealth would be impossible to attain because it would be spent on treating ailments. So, as the saying goes, “Health is wealth.”
Now, I'd like to discuss the state of the health sector in my country, Nigeria. Which is one of the major sectors in the country and this is because it's to do with a matter of death and life.
To start with, the health sector in my country is in a sorry state, with many challenges hindering its effectiveness.
In my country, Nigeria, there are numerous challenges facing the health system of my country and there's nothing too good about the Nigeria system.
Furthermore, I would like to categorize the challenges facing Nigeria's health system into two main areas which are; inadequate health facilities and poor welfare packages for health workers.
The poor state of the health facility in my country is the major challenge facing the health system of my country. During one of my visits to one of the foremost health institutions in my country, I realized that there's no available ward for patients to be admitted and for this reason, the patient was transferred from this government owned hospital to a private hospital due to lack of bedspace for someone who needed emergency care.
Aside this, at this same hospital, there's no electricity as the power supply to the hospital has been withdrawn due to the backlogs of debt from the hospital to the power generating company supplying electricity to the hospital. So, for this reason, most of the health workers were doing nothing at their duty post which in one way or the other endangered patient lives.
What of the state of the available facilities? The state of the available facilities was so poor that rats and other reptiles were so prevalent in the most revered health institutions in my country.
Though this is not limited to this foremost health institution alone as a friend of mine in another city was full of complaints when I narrated my experience to him. He even said my own experience is even better than his.
Also, in his own narratives, he said when he got to one of the hospitals in his place, he said there's no drug and that when the patient were even dying, there's no drug to be administered on them.
Aside this, another major challenge facing the health system of my country is the poor welfare treatment of the health workers. Now, the government is not taking good care of the health workers and this has led to some of the health workers leaving the country in droves. Also, this had led to most hospitals to be short staffed just because of the under funding of the health sectors.
Despite numerous protests and strike actions by health workers, the government has yet to take concrete action.
Although the government would always promise the health workers heaven on earth just to get them back to work.
But now, I think it's got to a point where the health workers should not even bow to the deceit of the government anymore as this is really affecting the health system. They, the health workers are the one that can fight the battle with the government as the masses voice cannot be heard.
Therefore, it would be worth it for health workers to embark to demand improvements to our health system and make their request known to the government. It's a sacrifice that is worth it and it must be paid for our health system to take its rightful place.

I recently understood better what it meant by health is wealth, you have explained better the challenges of the Nigerian health sector, lack of adequate investment in the health sector and good welfare packages.
We have a government that does rate or values anything, like the people in power just don't care about the masses and it's disheartening.
It's really sad to know that you guys have faced a lot of problems at hospitals and your government should take care of it as it's the most important department
We're used to it but praying for divine intervention. Thanks for stopping by.
We all have different experiences with health, it depends on where we live, but health is an asset and something to preserve, without health there are no conditions for people to live, which is why strikes are often an evil but necessary for those who govern us to become aware of the problem.
I agree with you. Thanks for stopping by.
