The question of whether an autocratic system of governance can be most suitable for a country in Africa like Nigeria over the Democratic system of government is one that does not need elaborate debate. In a country, where we practice the Democratic system of government we see how the welfare of the people or rather citizens are suppressed by leaders who come into power under the pretense of creating a better world for the people, instead they become greedy and amass wealth and powers for themselves and their families.
Democratic system of government is one that allows the people to express their human rights by voting their leaders into power, while the autocratic system of government is one that limits the Citizens imput in decision making in the country. In other words, it is a system where one person or a small group of people holds all the power to control the entire nation. Based on my research and knowledge of history on the Nigerian system of government over time, we can see that when the military rule took over it was a disaster as a lot happened ranging from suppression of Human Rights, lack of freedom and speech.
From our experience as citizens of Nigeria in our contemporary world, we can categorically states that allowing a single person to take all the power to control the nation in the country is a big mistake as this will bring about dictatorship. Even in a democratic system we are experiencing authoritarianism from a leader who is supposed to consider the voice is of the people and take into consideration their pains and tribulations rather than exploiting them and making things difficult. In essence, autocratic system of government in a diverse nation like Nigeria with multiple ethnic groups will bring about a division amongst the people, corruption, abuse of power and so many more.
A conclusion, autocratic system of government is not suitable for Nigeria because of the many factors as I have mentioned above involved in its execution. Rather, Nigeria needs a system of government that allows the People's impute as a means to check and balance corruption and so many other vices.
