I was reading an article in New Internationalist recently that made me realise how little I know about economics. It was about funding public services and how you don't really need taxes for that as the government can just print the money, but then you need to control inflation. It's all a balancing act. I think we used to tax the rich more, but they seem to have used their influence to roll that back. It's definitely not simple to fix.

National Economics and public finances can get a bit mythical - but printing money just = inflation!
