The Trad Right vs the Tech Right
Trump won in 2024 because of this new alliance between the traditional conservative right and the techno libertarian right--or essentially Donald Trump and Elon Musk. These two groups have some core differences in philosophy and policy, but they mostly put those differences aside to focus on their shared enemy: the woke left. But now that the right has won and is in power, eventually the differences between these two groups must be addressed. Decisions will need to be made on which way to go. The question is, what happens then, when the tech right and the trad right disagree?
One such case was the recent H1B visa debate. It seems that the nationalist right won for now, but there will be other disagreements over the next four years, primarily around technology. The techno libertarians joined the right because the left became too restrictive of tech and finance, with excessive regulation preventing the techno libertarians from creating the technology and businesses they wanted to. So they joined the MAGA movement for freedom. But there's some tech that will be beyond the pale for the trad right, especially around bioengineering and things like Neuralink, artificial wombs, and designer babies. So what happens when the tech right wants to do those things, but then it is the trad right who prevents them with excessive regulation?
I think what we will see is those segments of the tech right moving back to the left. The techno libertarians are not inherently right or left wing. They can move to either wing depending on the present circumstances. In the past they joined the Democratic Party, but now it is the Republican Party. We've seen a realignment of sorts, and I think we will see another realignment in the future. JD Vance may be able to hold the coalition together after Trump, but eventually, likely in 2036, that core debate between the tech right and trad right will come to fruition.
By then, the Democratic Party will have taken so many losses and lost so much ground that they will have been forced to reform, to drop the woke communists and move more to the right, back toward the center. They will do this to try to reclaim the techno libertarians back to their side by supporting such things as bioengineering and artificial wombs, and some of the more controversial bioengineering technology on the horizon that the trad right will want to restrict. We're starting to see the seeds of reform in the Democratic Party, with some centrist politicians standing up against the woke left. But it will take time for the Democratic vibe shift to fully take hold and truly put the woke away.
That won't happen until around 2036, after four more years of Trump and then another eight of JD Vance--and all the right wing wins that will come with that. The left will be forced to reassess and reform their core values and vision for the Democratic Party. And that will actually be a good thing for all of America if we could have a semi functional left and right wing both pushing back against each other to propel society as a whole forward in a positive direction for the future.
