We don't have to imagine it. We can observe the consequences of populations losing their firearms in the USSR, China, Yurop, and the Anglosphere. ~200M dead in the 20th Century, various tyrannical oppressions resulting in modern Russian, Chinese, and German polities today, and the ongoing destruction of civil society accelerating across the Anglosphere. However, simply having access to firearms will not ever be nominal to prevent degradation of polities, because to effectively restrain excessive exuberance of corrupt government firearms must be applied to such purpose by the population. Preventing populations from 1) being aware of government corruption, 2) having means of coordinating, or 3) being able to impose solutions, all of which are effected with maximal enthusiasm by covert and overt means, has delayed and prevented restraint of corruption in the USA nominally to enable the Constitutional limits on government to be ignored by corrupt agents.
Thanks!
