Howdy Freewriters🤗! I trust you're all doing great and I hope that today, being a TBT, you'll be visited by one precious moment from the past that will make you smile through this Thursday! Welcome to my 5 minute freewrite blog.
"I promise you, my fellow citizens, never will I shake hands with the opposition," he thundered into the mic, fishing for sympathy votes. On Sundays, his photos were splashed across newspapers, him kneeling in prayer. "Finally, a man sent by God," they said_._
His opponent paraded his manifestos instead: "I will look after this government better than he ever could," pointing fingers like daggers. His followers cheered. Not once was he snapped in a church; but who needs God when you have applause?
Convinced as they were, they went to the ballot. And when the results came, the church guy won. After all, he "loved God."
On the throne, he mocked the opposition. "Never will I shake hands with him!" he reminded them. Yet barely two year in, there they were on national TV, hands locked, smiles forced, the very picture of unity. Two extremes, or maybe that's just what they sold them, maybe it was all but a play, from the very beginning. "Because, what is a government without opposition? Opposition keeps power on it's toes, forces the best out of leaders, right?"
But in the end, the horseshoe bends, the enemies meet, and the joke isn't on them. The joke is on the voter. Because in politics, the horseshoe isn't for the horse; it's for us, the nailed ones.
