Jimmy Kimmel: Who gives a crap?

Like most people I stopped watching network television many years ago. For me it all began when the streaming companies started to be more viable than having a Direct TV connection or all the add ons for your cable subscription would end up costing over a hundred dollars a month. When the opportunity came along for me to only have streaming movies and series and not get any sports or news on my television, I jumped at the chance like a lot of other people did. All of us are so inundated with news all the time that I didn't need to have it yapped about on the television as well. I haven't seen a news broadcast in years and get my news in snippets from various sources on the internet and by things I subscribe to in Telegram and I think this is true of most people these days.

I honestly wouldn't have known Jimmy Kimmel had been taken off the air if it hadn't blown up in the news the way that it did.

I knew this guy was a die-hard liberal but that wasn't the reason that I wasn't watching his show. I wasn't watching his show for the same reason that I don't watch Gutfeld. I want to be entertained by these shows, not indoctrinated, and no matter what your political affiliation is, I feel as though that is what these shows are actually doing. They are confirmation-bias reinforcements and it's just a bunch of people that all agree with one another trying to pretend that they are making some sort of good and profound point. I had seen clips of Kimmel but honestly I haven't had much to do with him since the days of The Man Show and Win Ben Stein's Money. That's how long it has been since I actually watched TV that had a time slot.

So when I found out that this was dominating the news and one side was saying that Kimmel was cancelled by Trump and the other side was saying Trump had nothing to do with it I knew that this was a big glass of "nope" for me.

I no longer care. I wouldn't say that I ever did about any of these late-night talk shows and I am kind of surprised that any of them even exist anymore. Does anyone actually watch network TV anymore? Who is the person that is waiting until 10 or 11 PM so that they can watch Jimmy Kimmel? or anything else for that matter. Do these people exist?

What I do know is that a ton of people came out on social media to say how awful Jimmy is or to say how Jimmy was wronged by the system and just as is predictable - their opinion fell right in line with their own personal political affiliation.

Are we as a people really such predictable sheep? Do a majority of people seriously just fall in line and get upset about something just because the rulers of their side told them to get upset? It certainly seems that way.

This is how I prefer to remember Jimmy. Not some guy standing up in a suit crying about something political that happened. I will say this though: The dude grew up well. Just look at how less fat and awkward he looks now compared to his days on the Man Show!

All i know is that his show got suspended and the right cheered and the left cried foul. Now his show is back and the left is cheering and the right is crying foul. Urgh! Who cares?

I was at the Elks on Tuesday for my usual 3 post-work beers and it was brought up at the bar. I asked my friend to talk about literally anything else because since it was a political conversation and we were at the Elks' Lodge, I already know what his conclusion is going to be. Boring!

I get a bit frustrated when I see that people's political alliances have become so strong, such a part of their fiber of their being that they will get all worked up about a show that if it didn't get plastered all over the internet, most of us probably wouldn't even be aware that it was still a show. Kimmel isn't someone that I have thought about in a good or bad capacity in many years, and I prefer to keep it that way.

Now there are likely a ton of people online pretending as though they have always been Kimmel fans even though they too never watch the show. There will also be a bunch of people that are making it public that they are now boycotting a show that they never watched anyway. Get over yourselves. Not everything needs to be political.

For me, I am going to continue to not watch Kimmel because I don't watch any network TV and this isn't going to change. I'm not boycotting him, I never had anything to do with him in the first place. It is such a huge surprise that a guy with a talk show based out of Los Angeles, California is a liberal... BIG surprise!

I don't know if the above picture actually happened or not, nor do I care. IT would probably get good ratings if it happened now though, that's for sure.

In the end one side blames the other and the other side blames the former and in the end we are all sitting out here and probably shouldn't care. If there was something nefarious going on the people that really are controlling the game wouldn't let us know about it. In the meantime all the people that are arguing about this and celebrating it or whatever, I feel like they are all wasting their lives worrying about something that is completely beyond their control and doesn't change their lives at all.

Ever since COVID and the accompanying cancel culture for dissenters, I stopped taking the complaints like Kimmel's cancellation seriously. We all remember what those clowns did to us for years, not because of party, since I'm not Republican, but because we dared question the narrative. I didn't cheer when he got canned, but neither did I shed tears.

but because we dared question the narrative

I still get annoyed by this because it was very real. Funny how very few people have admitted fault about this an apologized. I remember Joe Rogan was able to force a half-assed apology out of one person that was involved at CNN or MSNBC or something like that, but as far as I know that is the only incident of anyone admitting that they did wrong.

It’s not about whether people do or do not like Kimmel. It’s about whether it’s acceptable that a POTUS and his sycophants can silence critics at their whim.

well herein lies a great deal of the problem. Both sides insist they did nothing wrong and any accusation the other has about their involvement in it is denied...by both sides. In the end we get no real information (again) and people are just more angry.

Same here. I do not watch network TV for anything. Too many cyborgs for my taste!

If we don't want this or that administration to clamp down on free speech, we can't let any of them do it. It's payback time for Dems, so soon after the Covid debacle, which was so soon after the Alex Jones debacle which was soon after the 9/11 debacle.

Unfortunately, Dems and Repubs are unable to see this, and still believe what they have to say is not hate speech, and that what the other side has to say is hate speech. Self righteousness is so unbecoming.

I am of the opinion that no speech should be regulated, none whatsoever. If someone wants to yell fire in a movie theater, so be it. We cannot draw lines on this matter, it must be absolute.

I have heard of this guy, but have never seen one of his shows and tend to avoid most of these types of shows as they are always too political and I find the humor very childish and weak. I saw the news his show was cancelled and if he was any good at entertaining he would still be doing his thing.

I don't think many people really watch late night TV anymore because of streaming. It is my understanding that Jimmy and the other people were/are paid a lot of money and are unwilling to bend on that. The shows all lose money, or so they say, and yet the networks keep airing them. Jimmy was IMO in his prime when he was teamed up with Adam Corolla during "The Man Show" which wasn't political at all and was very anti-PC. It's strange to me that someone involved in the creation of such a thing would go on to become very political and hyper-PC.
