Sadly Our government Controls Our Social Media !
Hey Everyone, I hope you are all fine and doing great. This post is my entry for the weekly featured content in the #Hivelearners community. Today's topic to write about is Social Media and Politics

Today’s topic is a crucial one, one that, in many ways, deeply affects our lives.
There are a couple of thoughts in my mind related to this topic that I’ll be sharing in this post.
First, let’s talk about the question raised today: Does social media have a role in shaping our political influence?
And if it does, then how much does it influence our political campaigns?
If I were to give a simple answer to this question, my response would be: Yes, yes, social media does influence our political campaigns!
This issue has two sides, one is the positive influence, and the other is the negative influence.
Unfortunately, our people often don’t do their own research and tend to believe everything they see on social media as the truth.
Politicians take advantage of this mindset by running targeted campaigns against each other.
If someone needs to be portrayed negatively, false or misleading news is spread about them, and that person ends up looking bad in front of the public.
On the other hand, someone who might have bad intentions can be made to appear good through carefully crafted campaigns, and the public is misled into believing they're a good person.
This is exactly why I’ve stopped believing everything I see on social media. In my opinion, it’s filled with 99% fake news and propaganda.
Before this, I was talking about political parties, how they use social media to promote their leaders and workers, and how people start thinking of them as good or bad based on what they see online.
Now I want to talk about the government, how it uses social media to influence people, and how it treats us when we talk about that influence.

It’s been about 75–80 years since we gained independence, and during this time, only two major parties have mostly ruled the country—the People's Party and the Muslim League (N).
Both of these parties have done whatever it took to stay in power, whether it was right or wrong.
And that’s exactly why our country, which was once on a great path and ahead of many other nations, has now been left behind.
The fight for power has pushed us backwards and wasted our potential.
No other party has been able to move forward because of the propaganda spread by these two parties.
And whenever another party tried to rise, they were pushed back through false propaganda.
When these two parties realized that this way they could keep ruling the country, they started taking turns in forming the government.
But we all know that when oppression crosses its limits, it eventually ends.
The same happened with these parties. A new party—led by Imran Khan, whom most of you already know—rose up and challenged them.
He defeated them and formed his government.
However, these same parties, with the support of the military, once again ran a propaganda campaign against him.
They created false cases and put him in jail, and once again returned to power.

Right now, these two parties are destroying the country together.
And this time, they have tried to silence our voices completely.
In every country, people have the right to freedom of speech—but not here.
If anyone speaks against the government or the military, they are picked up, tortured, and silenced.
And not just that—even social media platforms are banned.
For example, right now Twitter is banned in our country, and we have to use a VPN just to access it.
This is how badly they are running the country—and sadly, we feel helpless.

I can imagine, we are experiencing almost the same issue here in Nigeria. Most people are afraid to speak because of what could happen. I just hope it gets better.
That's the fear they have instilled in us.
social media has both positive and negative influence, news being spread are not verified before it is being shared causing fake news to be majority of the news on social media. politics is a dirty game in every even in my country leading through various propagandas.
Hopefully this dirty game would end soon.

You are right, I have also find it difficult to believe in social media. Many of their updates are always just to distract people from what’s going on in the real world. That’s one of the effects of it.
Glad we share same view point on this one.
