To be fair, a large percentage of those living off the land were barely surviving off the land.
All they had to do was steal the land.
That is as concerning as it is apparent. Imagine my surprise that just buying some seeds and putting them in dirt didn't result in copious harvests. In the decades since, I have gradually pieced together some few of the basal realities fundamental to agriculture hardly any of us learn in school. I reckon such things are far more important than some speech some dead guy gave, that most all of us have learned instead, the dead guy varying depending on jurisdiction.
