I cannot agree that people incapable of self rule are capable of love. Love is for Autarchs.
Thanks!
In every heart is good and evil.
Like a pendulum that never stays at the extreme longer than it takes to reverse course, so too is some good/evil in us all.
We are just waiting for our various triggers to dish it out.
Everyone but me. I am only pure and good, like butterflies, puppies, and pretty girls - except, of course, each of those things are vectors for harm and evil too, just as you say. Butterflies come from caterpillars that consume our crops, like tomatoes, and every other crop we depend on for our good food and lives. Puppies grow into pitbulls and wolves that maul to death little children and eat them. In fact there is no power on Earth that can hurt a man more or worse than a pretty girl, and I am confident every adult man on Earth can confirm that fact.
So, if you find a bum in the street, do you help him, or kick him?
Helping him drink away his troubles of being a failed pediatric brain surgeon can cut both ways.
If you help him, he just fails some more, killing more kids, if you kick him, maybe he gets up and saves a few a lives.
But, good luck getting the guesses right.
There are just way too many variables to get into what is right and wrong for others, we can only guess at it for ourselves.
It is for this reason that I stress and so strongly recommend obdurate dependence on sound principles. I have neither to emunerate nor abuse the bum in the street. Since I have no familiarity with his circumstances, I acknowledge I am incapable of judging what I should do about them, therefore the right thing to do is to jog on and bugger off.
When it comes to helping my neighbors, I have some familiarity with them. The splitter I replaced on a spigot yesterday was a wise help to a neighbor with a bad back, for whom just bending down to screw the splitter on the spigot would have left them in pain for days. The skirting I kicked and cursed back into place this morning was a wise assistance to a 93 year old man, that literally can't do that work on his home, and is a far better neighbor than anyone that might replace him if he had to go to a nursing home because his house was falling apart and he couldn't maintain it.
I dunno from bums on the street, as you point out.
Love in unrest :)
