Honestly, if you ask me, I won’t be able to project where this country is going at all. Because at this point, it looks like everything that can go wrong in the country is going wrong. Every two market days, we’d be bombarded with something new and depressing that has hit the country. The good news doesn’t really flow well because the people are too depressed from all the bad things happening in the country. After all, “na only person wae don chop dae enjoy the good news.”

It’s just like the country is fighting so many battles on so many fronts at this point, and it doesn’t look like the struggle will be ending anytime soon. Because based on what I’ve seen so far, our leaders are not all that interested in making things work. Nothing is working as it should and everyone is just scared right now.

It’s no news that in Nigeria, there are talks about an impending protest that will take place from August 1 to August 10. It’s a form of protest designed to end bad governance in the country. The last time the youths spoke about such a protest, it was the #ENDSARS of 2020 and we all know how that went. It was all going well until it ended in the Lekki tollgate massacre and the eventual hijacking of the protests which led to its end.

Now that talks of another protest are floating around, there are people who are doing their best to try and put a stop to it. There are those who are fanning the flames of tribal rivalry just so that the protest won’t hold, and some are employing other subversive ways just to stop this from happening. As it stands now, all eyes are on August 1, let’s all see if this protest will start as intended. It only has to start, because once it does, the momentum will do the rest. My only hope is that if it does start, it will be as peaceful as it can be because we can’t afford another massacre or loss of property as we did in 2020.

However, the protest isn’t the only thing going on in the country. There is still the ongoing tussle between Aliko Dangote (Africa’s richest man), the Nigerian Federal Government, and NNPC. It all has to do with the operation of his refinery. From monopoly talks to taxation and shares, there are just so many things that have been coming to light in recent days. I went online and read some tweets about it. Omo… I had to shake my head. Things are really happening in this country. So many things are happening behind the scenes and they’re up there playing us all like marionettes.

Besides all that, there is still the issue of police brutality, insecurity, cyberbullying, incessant inflation… the list goes on and on. Just another Monday on the streets of a Nigerian city. And now, Big Brother Naija is back. As usual, it has the ability to distract people from everything that is happening in their lives and in the country. I just pray that the people who are clamoring for change don’t forget all about the change just because they are invested in the reality show.

As I said earlier, so many things are going on in the country and if you try to wrap your head around it all, you just might lose it. That’s why I just take things easy, one step at a time. We just have to be careful because you can go to sleep one night and hear another depressing news and you won’t even be fazed. This would be because by then, such things don’t hurt you anymore. I pray we don’t get there as a people because when we do, it would mean that we’re lost.

I really hope that things get better because we really need it to.

My own is that, let the protest be peaceful, let it not end like ENDEARS.
But how are we guaranteed of a peaceful protest? Peaceful protest is almost impossible because the people that did the Lekki tollgate massacre are very much still in power and have not repented.

God abeg🤲

We don’t know where the country is going to. The government isn’t helping matters and most citizens ain’t helping too
This is the time where we see more people care about only themselves and their family
Everywhere and everything is messed up already

My dear... everyone only cares about their families ooo. It's just sad, but that's what the situation has caused for them.

It is the right of every human being to protest but it should be done in a peaceful manner so that the people living there do not face any problem.

Yeah... it will start off being peaceful, but I can only hope it remains peaceful throughout.

I don't think if a protest start, it can remain peaceful. I time it's a common thing in overpopulated and developing country because some selfish people try to take advantage of it. I just hope not it to happen but I am confident that it will just repeat the history.

I see your point. Those in power will always do their best to g against anything that will threaten their throne. And many times, that is the very thing the people want. Scary times, indeed.
