RE: Rogan and the responsibility of platforms

What's Rogan done now? Actually, don't tell me, the less I hear about that chud the better. Near as I can tell, the United States is doing it's best to be a case study in the paradox of tolerance, he's just a minor facet of that.

There's a Utah Phillips quote I like to trot out, feel like it sums up my feelings nicely:

“The state can't give you free speech, and the state can't take it away. You're born with it, like your eyes, like your ears. Freedom is something you assume, then you wait for someone to try to take it away. The degree to which you resist is the degree to which you are free...”

That said, it seems a lot of folks conflate freedom of speech with freedom from consequence. Just as you are free to say whatever, your peers are free to treat you as a pariah for what you say. In the hills and hollers of eastern Kentucky where I grew up there's a long history of taking free speech very seriously. So seriously in fact that if you were the sort prone to making threats there was a good chance of you dying in an ambush.

You know, Rogan found his testicles a couple of days ago. Actually spoke against Trump (without saying his name, of course) for a change.

I know he's hard to watch these days, and I'm sure his base is right now suffering from some sort of mental short circuit.

"Trump is based bruh.. whata..."

Anyways, he clearly argued for the need of due process (duh!). I'm sure (i've not checked) his own followers are shitting on him right now.

Curiouser and curiouser, wasn't expecting that. It'll be interesting to see if this is a momentary thing or the start of something else.
