Democracy isn’t about ballots anymore.
It’s about wallets.
In fairness, it's always been. Both capitalism and democracy suggest and even encourage corruption. I think the big difference now as different from the past is the laws we once once had to temper these excesses have disappeared or aren't being enforced. In otherwords, corruption used to be under the table or in smoke-filled backrooms. Now, it's right there in the open.
