Impossible not to mix politics with what I’m doing.

Truth is, we live in a globalized system. That might sound dirty, we might even hate it, but it doesn’t make it any less true. And this war, whether we like it or not, is going to affect us all.

I was sitting with my uncle last night, sharing what we’ve learned about this whole fiasco. Truth is, there were no good choices. Once again, it seems like no matter who we vote for, we always end up with John McCain. If the reference is a little obscure, I apologize, but it lands for those of us who’ve been around the block a few more times.

Markets today are reacting, as they usually do. You see, markets despise, above all else, uncertainty. Nothing is more uncertain than the escalation of war. We’ve been here before, and every single time the US enters one of these conflicts, the markets swing toward the negative. Let’s just say, records have been set when these kinds of things happen.

One would love to see cryptocurrencies decouple from these global events, but that’s just wishful thinking at this point. Cryptocurrencies were supposed to be "the out," the way regular people reclaimed their sovereignty. But more and more, they’re being blended into the old system. A sad fact, if I may say so.

That said, I’m not going to fret too much about this. Not because it doesn’t hurt to see all the red in the markets — it does. I have bills to pay, just this week in fact, and I’m going to have to do something I hate. I’m going to have to sell coins. It hurts selling HIVE at 25 cents. I hope I can forgive myself for letting some go at 18, but my wife’s car needs repairs, and that leaves me no choice.

On the positive side of things, I have to admit, it feels good to still be building something here, far from the conflict. That’s not to say a full-scale war wouldn’t affect the country we’re living in — it would. But I don’t expect bomber planes in our skies, and there’s a certain kind of peace in that.

I hate to say it, but I feel like I must. There’s this ridiculous idea floating around that last night’s move — the destruction of nuclear capability — marked the end of the conflict. I saw people, talking heads as we call them, celebrating like Iran had just turned in its sword. I don’t even know what to say to that.

This morning, as expected, Iran announced a block on oil passage through a major route they control. From what I understand, about 20 percent of the world’s crude flows through that region. So, we can expect the impact to be global. Prepare for gas prices to go up, prepare for inflation to take a jab at our wallets.

Now of course, there’s always a chance I’m completely wrong, and I’m not going to pretend I can read the future either. Sometimes the markets rally once a war “settles in,” which is strange to me, but hey — it is what it is. So we could see a recovery this week, even if tensions escalate. That said, I don’t see how rising oil prices don’t affect everything. But then again, maybe there’s a plan we’re not privy to.

I’ll say this, and with it, I’ll relinquish my thoughts on politics for the day: I thought Congress was needed to declare war. That part is confusing to me, because I thought most Americans loved the Constitution. Yet this is proving, to me at least, that tribalism outweighs everything — even democracy.

Some might call me a monster for saying this. A myopic idiot too. But this looks way too much like the Bush years, and that doesn’t bring back good memories at all.

Es imposible no mezclar la política con lo que estoy haciendo.

La verdad es que vivimos en un sistema globalizado. Puede que suene sucio, incluso que lo odiemos, pero no por eso deja de ser cierto. Y esta guerra, nos va a afectar a todos.

Anoche estaba sentado con mi tío, compartiendo lo que hemos aprendido sobre todo este desastre. La verdad es que no había buenas opciones. Una vez más, parece que no importa por quién votemos, siempre terminamos con John McCain. Si la referencia te parece algo oscura, lo siento, pero para los que ya hemos dado unas cuantas vueltas al sol, cae como anillo al dedo.

Hoy los mercados están reaccionando, como siempre lo hacen. Verás, los mercados odian, por encima de todo, la incertidumbre. Y no hay nada más incierto que la escalada de una guerra. Ya hemos estado aquí antes, y cada vez que Estados Unidos entra en uno de estos conflictos, los mercados se van para abajo. Digamos que ya hay récords marcados cuando ocurren estas cosas.

Uno quisiera ver a las criptomonedas desligarse de estos eventos mundiales, pero por ahora eso no pasa de ser un deseo. Las criptos se suponía que eran "la salida", la manera en que la gente común recuperaba su soberanía. Pero cada vez más, se están mezclando con lo viejo. Una verdad triste, si se me permite decirlo.

Dicho eso, no voy a atormentarme demasiado. No porque no duela ver los números en rojo en el mercado, claro que duele. Tengo cuentas por pagar, esta misma semana de hecho, y voy a tener que hacer algo que detesto. Voy a tener que vender monedas. Duele vender HIVE a 25 centavos. Espero poder perdonarme por haber soltado algo a 18, pero el carro de mi esposa necesita reparaciones, y no me queda otra.

Por el lado positivo, tengo que admitir que se siente bien seguir construyendo algo aquí, lejos del conflicto. No quiero decir que una guerra a gran escala no afectaría al país donde vivimos, porque sí lo hará. Pero no espero ver aviones bombarderos sobre nuestros cielos, y eso ya me da cierta paz.

Odio decir esto, pero siento que debo. Hay una idea ridícula circulando de que lo que pasó anoche, la destrucción de las capacidades nucleares, marcó el final del conflicto. Vi a gente, lo que llamamos “cabezas parlantes”, celebrando como si Irán hubiera entregado su espada. No sé ni qué decir ante eso.

Esta mañana, como era de esperarse, Irán anunció el bloqueo del paso de petróleo por una ruta muy importante que controlan. Por lo que entiendo, cerca del 20% del crudo del mundo pasa por esa zona. Así que podemos imaginar el impacto que esto va a tener a nivel global. Prepárense para que suba el precio de la gasolina, prepárense para que la inflación nos pegue otra vez en el bolsillo.

Claro, también existe la posibilidad de que esté completamente equivocado, y no voy a fingir que puedo leer el futuro. Ya ha pasado antes que los mercados se recuperan una vez que la guerra "se acomoda", lo cual me parece extraño, pero así es la cosa. Así que podríamos ver un repunte esta misma semana, incluso si aumentan las tensiones. Aun así, no veo cómo no nos va a afectar el alza del petróleo. Pero bueno, tal vez hay un plan que no conocemos.

Voy a decir esto, y con eso dejo de pensar en política por hoy:

Yo pensaba que el Congreso era necesario para declarar una guerra. Esta parte me confunde, porque según yo, a los estadounidenses les encanta su Constitución. Pero esto me confirma que el tribalismo pesa más que cualquier cosa, incluso más que la democracia.

Algunos dirán que soy un monstruo por decir esto, un idiota miope también. Pero esto se parece demasiado a los años de Bush, y eso no me trae buenos recuerdos.
