This is a Competition of Incompetence (Eng/Esp)

I will have to ask for your forgiveness, as I see myself going on a rant today. The truth is that my mind is filled with thoughts, and I'm having a hard time organizing it all. A mixture of philosophy, existentialism, and pessimism seems to dominate my soul at the moment, and it’s likely to reflect on my pen, as they say.

It seems like not many days go by before I'm talking to my brother about the next moves we ought to make. I say we because as a family, lots of our decisions involve all of us, and hence if he does decide to move, well, I'm going to get my hands dirty as well. Truth be told, I see very little reason to remain hopeful with how the situation is panning out in the US, and although I want to be a voice of positivity, it seems rather disingenuous at the moment.

The markets, no matter what any experts will tell you, are always going to cycle. We are too hot right now, and prices keep on going up. The keen observers have already made adjustments, and I happen to know people who have decided to sell their homes before the bubble explodes. A smart move, as far as I can tell.

When I first landed in Florida, life was expensive, yes, but not like today. You could find places to live, to rent, even if you held a minimum wage job. I think that ship has sailed, and I’m of the idea that it will never dock again.

My own uncle decided to leave Florida this year and go to Texas. As far as I can tell, he played his cards just right. Got himself a home, a job, and now instead of renting, he's working towards his patrimony. An impossibility in Florida's market.

That said, there's this lingering idea that we can turn around the situation if only the right party comes to power in the midterms. The people who say this are either too naive or are simply not paying attention to what's happening. Both parties, although I'll grant you in different ways, have pushed us towards this situation. The invoice is being tallied, and we are about to be confronted with the ugliest of realities.

Yes, I've been quite quiet about politics for a little while, but every now and then, it's okay. And besides, this is my blog after all. I'm not one to be upset if someone disagrees with me, granted they do so with respect.

As far as I can tell, the people in charge don't really know how things work. It's either that, or they think we are very dumb. I don't know what is worse, but honestly it doesn't even matter.

To the people who are in love with their politicians, this is nothing more than WWE for grownups, but I don't care about these personality cults one bit. That said, calling yourself an alpha, and then calling Trump your daddy, does seem a bit weird, but I digress.

Just yesterday, my wife sent me a video of Trump announcing that he's negotiated drug prices for the common folk. With his skill, his mastery of deal-making, he says he was able to reduce drug prices by 1600% – in other words, drug companies will now pay you to take their medicine. You almost want to laugh, but then you remember there are people who see these things and think we are still in good hands.

We went from Weekend at Bernie’s to General Haffaz Aladeen, and yet, there are some who think everything is fine. Aside from the fact that we've left any trace of empathy and mercy in the dust – which should bother anyone with a heart – we are also making ridiculous decisions. These are all choices that don't benefit the US one bit, yet the claps don't cease.

From where I stand, this is a competition of incompetence. Two words that up until this rant, I know I had never used in the same sentence.

So yeah, I'm not of a positive mind today. I don't think the US will recover from all these choices for generations. I don't think the opposing party is actually opposing anything. All I see is a bunch of corrupt elites fighting for the same carcass of a country they themselves killed.

And all I'm doing is watching from a distance. Maybe distance is all that’s left for those of us who can still see.

If you think Florida is expensive, try Washington state where a shack is over a million dollars USD and anything decent even in the remote suburbs starts at $1,500,000+

The problem is not even the price you pay, it is the cost to carry these homes, here is the monthly breakdown of your monthly payment:

In my mind these homes are 25 to 50% overpriced in our area, so I dumped my house as I think this is too expensive now and it might be 5 to 10 years before I can sell for the same money...

As far as I can tell, the people in charge don't really know how things work. It's either that, or they think we are very dumb. I don't know what is worse, but honestly it doesn't even matter.

I think it is a mix of both.

I probably said it to many times but it feels like you are degrading to our "democracy". We had a very short time where they at least tried to pretend they don't think everyone is dumb. i don't even remember when someone from the ruling party spent a few minutes talking and didn't say a blunt lie, one where you would say "no way anyone would believe this" and you then realize how many actually do.
