My POV, exactly.
The African native concept sees government as a means to better one's lot, hence, democracy has issued that opportunity to politicians by playing on the intelligence of the electorates.
This is why the elites are seen as the enemy of the state.
However, we must note that communism is just another type of socialism, a system where there is no class or pursuit of personal wealth.
This could better the lot of an average African.

Communism is a lot harsher than socialism. Socialism focuses more on the wellbeing of the people where as communism focusses more on the wellbeing of the state. The USSR bastardized Marxism. It was never meant to hurt the general public of Russia, which is really did, despite Russia growing its empire and providing arms to whoever was fighting in the cold war on the side of the very far left. The US, which is completely Capitalistic (which is devastating and ultimately completely unsustainable as we can see as we witness the States fall apart) did exactly the same but always funded the other side. Hence the cold war. And they say it ended, but in my opiion, it never truly did. In a way, both countries rely on these wars to fight their battles via proxy. Sickening, really, when we are mostly talking about civil wars in third world countries.
