You're right on some points. The US regime right now is hoping they can co-opt Russia to make them an ally against China. The irony is, I had the same idea five years ago. And back then, it could have worked. But the barbarism Russia inflicted during the invasion of Ukraine made the idea of an alliance with Russia anathema.
As for whether China or Russia is a "more valuable goal," I think this misses the point. Russia, China, and Iran (and their vassals Belarus, North Korea and Hamas) are an axis. We don't have the luxury of choosing which one to fight. They're all working together and have to all be taken down. Is China the most powerful of that axis? Yes. Is China the leader of that axis? Yes. But the entire alliance has to be crushed.

Some East Asians are currently predicting that there will be a war between Japan and China.
If the US attacks Iran, China may start a new war to secure oil, as Iranian oil will not be supplied to China.
I think China could use Taiwan as a hostage to demand oil from the US.
If China goes to war with Japan over Taiwan, South Korea should attack North Korea.
By the way, Are you currently in Ukraine? What are you going to do there?
Yeas, mon ami, I am. It seems that when I posted about the war you thought I had returned to the US. 😅 I am still in Ukraine. I was supposed to be in Dnipro, but the Russians blew up the school I taught at. I accepted a post in Lviv instead, and for the summer I am working as a humanitarian volunteer in Kharkiv helping children displaced by the war (and helping repatriate the useless corpses of demonic Russian invaders back to their putrid homeland so they do not befoul Ukrainian soil with the pestilence of their presence, as well as helping to dig mass graves for those corpses whom no one in Russistan will accept, so we can build Ukrainian latrines on top of them).
Well if that is the case then Japan would be one hell of a waste of resources, as they are more than a match for China and have very little oil.
American geopolitical forecaster George Friedman has been saying for some time that there will be a Sino-Japanese war (or rather, that the US will struggle to prevent one) between 2030 and 2040.
