The best president of my time

Leadership is one of those things that makes governance work out. Leadership and governance are two things that cannot be separated from each other. They are like siamese twins.

One thing that has been affecting the whole world is the lack of good leadership. When people are being governed by good leaders, then the people and the country would enjoy the dividends of democracy and if it's otherwise, then the reverse would be the case.

Having said much about this, I would like to delve into the topic of the prompt which is all about, “A memorable president.”

As for me, the most memorable president I have seen in my country ever since is President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. This man is a complete gentleman who loves his people.

I could remember in his time, the economy was good and stable and a whole lot of people are really doing fine financially.

Aside from this, there's this kind of freedom for every citizen of the country. Unlike today where people's freedom are no longer guaranteed as it was in his time.

I could remember in his time when he was planning to remove the subsidy, people protested from all over the country against the subsidy removal and because of his listening ear, he listened to the groans of his people and reversed his decision to reverse the planned removal of the fuel subsidy.

Also, in his time, the foreign exchange was okay and a whole lot of people benefited from it, even the country's economy was ranked first in the whole of Africa.

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was the president that conducted one of the freest elections in the country. As the incumbent president back then, president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan conceded defeat to the candidate of the opposition party in 2015 general election, Muhammadu Buhari.

However, insecurity is the major crisis that characterized the tenure of the president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. During his time, the boko haram terrorist destroyed lives and properties.

Although the then president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan tried his best to overcome the menace, it wasn't possible for him to do so just because of the political issues that surrounded the insecurity in his time.

Another thing that characterized his tenure was corruption. Corruption was prevalent in his time, people, most especially the political appointee were just embezzling money at will in his time. He was the one who said corruption is different from stealing.

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan could curb corruption in his own time and this made him paid dearly for his re election bid as he was voted out of office by the Nigeria people.

Although he had a good heart towards people and his tenure was known to be people oriented, his weakness really affected his performance in office as he lacked the confidence and courage to tackle insecurity and corruption during his 5 year stint as the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
