Why there are so many old people in politics?

Old is not always gold.

In many countries people usually retires after the age of 60. It means governments, business houses etc. don't find old people capable of doing hard work and maintain accuracy. But in politics, so many old politicians head the country. They are in the key position, despite of having memory loss, deterioration of physical and mental health and becoming irrational.

If old people are not fit for working in factories, offices and businesses, then how old people are considered fit for running the whole country? It means either capable and experienced people are retired unnecessarily from work or experienced but incapable and unhealthy people are forcibly given power so that shrewd and unscrupulous people may easily exploit their condition.

Even politician don't get retire after crossing 80 years of age. This is ridiculous. It also infer that the people who elect them are not wise and prudent, otherwise they would not have selected those people who have memory loss, reduced physical and mental capacities and highly irritable.

What do you think?

For older people, politics is like porn for a teenager...but only their pleasure can end up destroying the teenager’s future. 😐

Because they always delude us by reinforcing the idea that young people do not have enough experience to run countries.

I've never thought of it before but it does make a lot of sense. Old people aren't fit to run a country. Indirectly or directly, they've unfortunately find a way to keep themselves in positions of power for a long while. Some have been political leaders for 30 years.

That bit about leaders still hanging on after 80 really stuck with me. In my world we trust numbers not vibes, so a simple rule like fixed term limits plus periodic health and cognition checks feels fair to everyone. If factories need fitness standards, then the top job should have transparent metrics too, otherwise the real decisions drift to unelected aides and polticians become mascots :(
Give the experienced ones advisory roles with pay and respect, but keep executive seats fresh so we dont end up with leaders snoozing through budgets, their just there for the chair :)

Politicians are like celebrities. They always wish to be noted, to be admired. Politicians love to order. They want to rule over others. That's why no matter how weak they become due to age, they never wish to retire from politics.
